Several reports have been filed with the La Porte City Police Department concerning counterfeit currency.
Officers encourage business owners and employees to be more vigilant in checking money of any denomination when conducting a cash transaction. Several $10 and $20 dollar bills have been passed along as deceptive.
The La Porte City Police Department is investigating the distribution of counterfeit $100 bills at local businesses on Thursday.
The first incident happened at Marco’s Pizza where a woman reportedly paid for her order with a $100 bill. A press release notes that after further examination, the employee thought that the bill might be fake. La Porte Police confirmed that the bill was indeed counterfeit.
Counterfeit bills in varying denominations have turned up in bank deposits from multiple Starke County businesses this week, according to officials with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office. They were notified after bogus $5, $20 and $50 bills were discovered. Continue reading
Merchants are urged to be on the lookout for counterfeit $100 bills. The Michigan City Police Department received several reports of two to four black females trying to pass bogus money at stores, restaurants and gas stations Thursday evening. Counterfeit $20 bills are circulating around the Starke County area.
Carla Musial from Demotte State Bank told WKVI that they’re the best that she’s seen. A Starke County merchant got one this weekend. While the bills look real, they will mark brown, not yellow, and the hologram is missing along with glitter on the bottom of the bills and a strip.
