Pulaski County has taken another step toward reforming the pay structure of its employees.
During a joint session of the Pulaski County Commissioners and County, a proposed salary matrix was reviewed. The document has been developed over the course of several months with the aim of saving the county money on new hires, but also providing incentives such as raises for longevity.

Pulaski County will have to spend a small amount of money in order to provide a deed to the individual buying county-owned land.
Attorney Kevin Tankersley says the property, described only as “railroad property,” was sold at tax auction. Before a deed can be given to the winning bid, however, a legal description is needed to complete the document. Currently the site is missing that description.

The Pulaski County Commissioners will be assessing a fine for a building that collapsed in Monterey.
The Commissioners acted as the “hearing authority” for the Town of Monterey – which is required under state statute before additional steps can be taken – for the former Sportsman’s Bar and Grill. The building collapsed in April of this year, but ensuring proper clean-up has proven a laborious task.

The Starke County Election Board will be convening for the first time since last week’s Knox Primary Municipal Election.
Tuesday was the first election Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley. Few of the races were contested during the primary. Incumbent Mayor Rick Chambers was defeated handily by former Mayor Dennis Estok. Several other City Council seats were contested, largely on the Democratic side.

Starke County Townships could be affected if another attempt to transfer their duties to the county level is successful.
House Bill 1309 was recently filed and looks to dissolve township governments. The transition would take place by 2019. Starke County has nine townships with hundreds more in the state of Indiana.

The Pulaski County Commissioners discussed with Sheriff Mike Gayer why a vehicle was purchased without their approval. Gayer said that he was under the impression that, because the vehicle is a necessary tool to the Sheriff’s Department, it fell under the type of purchase that did not need approval from the Commissioners. Gayer also stressed that he was not trying to circumvent the system and he meant no disrespect, and he purchased the vehicle as inexpensively as possible.
