The Culver Community Schools Corporation is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, but school officials are also looking to the future, as next month’s referendum approaches. Superintendent Karen Shuman passed out special 50th anniversary pins to school board members Monday. “It is a significant end, when we talk about the referendum, that we wish to be here in 50 years,” she said, “and as you’ve seen, the signs have gone up.”

Culver Community Schools will be holding registration next Monday and Tuesday. It will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Culver Schools Administration Office. Online pre-registration is already open.
Local Schools Among Recipients of Secured School Safety Grants
The State of Indiana has awarded more than $14 million in this year’s round of Secured School Safety Grants. The program provides a 50-50 match to help schools buy security equipment, hire resource officers, or conduct threat assessments.
Culver School Board Updated on Funding Concerns
Declining enrollment and state funding continue to cause concerns for the Culver Community Schools Corporation. In an update to the school board last week, Corporation Treasurer Casey Howard said that enrollment was about 1,073 students during the 2009-2010 school year. She said it’s now just under 739 students.
Knox, North Judson-San Pierre See Improvement in School Corporation Letter Grades
Some local school corporations saw their letter grades improve slightly, while others remained flat. On Wednesday, the Indiana State Board of Education finalized the A-to-F grades for each of the state’s school corporations for the 2016-2017 school year.
Knox, N.J.-S.P. High Schools See Improvement in School Accountability Grades
Three local elementary schools saw their letter grades decline in the latest round of School Accountability Grades. Oregon-Davis, Eastern Pulaski, and West Central elementary schools all got a C for the 2016-2017 school year, down from a B the year before. Culver Community Middle/High School also went from a B to a C.
Enrollment Increase Anticipated at Eastern Pulaski Schools
The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation expects a slight increase in enrollment. The official count isn’t until Friday, but Superintendent Dan Foster says the corporation’s preliminary enrollment figure is 1,285. Continue reading

Culver School Board Reverses Administrative Cut, Delays Naming Permanent Superintendent
The Culver Community Schools Corporation has changed its plans for administrative cuts, due to some recent resignations. Last December, the school corporation recommended cutting two administrative positions, as well as some teaching jobs, as a cost-saving measure. The Culver Community Schools Corporation’s marketing efforts continue to get help from the local community. Shelly Schrimsher, a volunteer with the corporation’s marketing team, told the school board Monday that banners with the corporation’s new logo will be going up around town later this month, she said that she wants to learn how to make money in affiliate marketing, so she’s going to start right away.
