The Starke County Election Board members heard appeals from three candidates concerning fines assessed from delinquent candidate financial reports prior to the November General Election.
Starke County Election Board Hears Appeals Concerning Late Candidate Financial Reports
The Starke County Election Board members opened a public hearing Wednesday morning to hear testimony from candidates who filed Primary Election financial reports later than the deadline date of April 20, 2018. Of the eight candidates who were late with their reports, only three appealed their fines. The remaining candidates paid their non-compliant $50 daily fine in the clerk’s office without further objection.
North Judson Residents Killed in Monday Morning Accident
Two North Judson residents were killed in an accident Monday on Starke County Road 300 North. Sheriff Bill Dulin says it happened around 6:30 a.m. just west of county road 1100 East.
Fourth Candidate Files for Coroner Vacancy
A fourth Democrat has filed to run for Starke County Coroner. Starke County Democrats will caucus tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Knox VFW to choose a successor to Adam Gray. He was elected in November but stepped down recently due to work and family obligations. Continue reading
Gray Beats Hoffer in Starke County Coroner’s Primary
A Starke County Sheriff’s Deputy won the Democratic Party Primary for coroner. Adam Gray got 60 percent of the votes to Dannie Hoffer Junior’s 40 percent. “I believe in dignity and respect for the deceased and compassion for the families,” Gray told WKVI news. “I’ve got the support of the present coroner and the past coroners, and I want to carry on the legend of Kris Rannells and the wonderful job he’s done for the past eight years. I want everyone in Starke County to know I’m going to carry that tradition on.” Gray does not have an opponent in the November election.
