A new superintendent has been chosen at Eastern Pulaski Schools and he’s no stranger to the corporation. Dan Foster held an administration position at the corporation as he explains his history in education.

“I was a high school band director at Fountain Central in Veedersburg, Indiana and then I came to Eastern Pulaski as the assistant principal at the high school in 2004,” said Foster. I spent three years here and then went to Caston High School for one year as the Junior/Senior high principal and I’ve been there for the last five years as superintendent. I did my undergraduate at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, my Master’s in music at Miami University in Ohio and all of my administrative work was at Indiana State.”

Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Contract to Be Approved in Special Meeting

 
 

The Eastern Pulaski School Board has scheduled a special meeting to seek action on entering into a contract for the new superintendent of schools. That meeting is set for Tuesday, Aug. 20.

The board this week held a public hearing on the new superintendent’s contract. A new law passed requires that the public have a say in the proposed contract. Hearing no comments from the public or the board during the public hearing, the board noted that a meeting to approve that contract would be scheduled seven days after the public hearing, which is state statute.

The name of the superintendent has not been released. The board will approve a recommendation for a new superintendent during Tuesday’s meeting which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET in the Distance Learning Lab.

Eastern Pulaski School Board Moves Forward With School Safety Concepts

The Eastern Pulaski School Board agreed to move forward with a concept for a school safety grant equipment purchase that will be submitted to the Pulaski County Safety Commission.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman explained that the $50,000 matching grant would be used to fund several equipment upgrades at the buildings. The grant money would be used to upgrade the security camera system to record digital images, to install a keyless entry system for all staff at the elementary school, to install a new box for emergencies that directly notifies EMS, and to devise a mechanism to display emergency plans in all classrooms.

Eastern Pulaski School Board Holds Public Hearing for Superintendent’s Contract

 
 

The Eastern Pulaski School Board members held a public hearing last night during their regularly scheduled meeting concerning the proposed new superintendent’s employment contract.

Board President Mike Tetzloff opened the public hearing for public comment and there was no comment from anyone in the audience. He offered the board members a chance to speak and there was no comment.

Hearing Scheduled on Eastern Pulaski Superintendent’s Contract

Details of the contract offer for the next Eastern Pulaski School Corporation superintendent will be outlined during a public hearing prior to this evening’s school board meeting. The finalist will not be identified by name, but state law requires a public hearing be held to present terms of the offer. In this case they include a base salary of $100,000 for a 260-day year for the next three years. The school board will review the superintendent’s performance annually, and if he or she is evaluated as either highly effective or effective they may grant a base salary increase.

Eastern Pulaski Superintendent Search Winds Down

The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation will soon have a new superintendent in place. Dr. Robert Klitzman retired June 30th but stayed on in an interim capacity until his replacement is hired. Klitzman tells WKVI news that August 23rd will be his last day. The board will conduct a public hearing on the new superintendent’s contract during their Monday, Aug. 12th board meeting. State law requires a hearing be held, but Klitzman says the candidate will not be identified by name. The board will then meet in executive session, with a formal hiring decision scheduled during a special-called meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

It’s amazing how fast time goes. Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman said the time is drawing near for the start of the new school year as he gave information about school registration to the school board this week.

“We are only within five weeks of the start of school,” said Klitzman. “Our registration for students starts Aug. 2 and runs through Aug. 7. The first day for staff is actually on Monday, Aug. 12 and the first day for students is Aug. 14.”

Healthier Foods to be Served at Schools

The menus are constantly changing at schools to encourage healthier choices.

More vegetables are being offered to students to help improve healthy eating and to tackle child obesity issues. Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman noted that changes were made last school year and more changes are expected on plates this coming school year.

Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman informed the school board about a study being conducted in the special-ed co-op. He said it appears that there will be some movement from what they have now to a decentralized system where each member school will employ their own teachers and instructional assistants.

The board also discussed the Affordable Care Act.

Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman signed a Memorandum of Understanding Monday night that pertains to the board’s search for a new superintendent.

Klitzman stated that it takes time to search for a new superintendent and there are certain processes that need to be followed. The board is taking their time to find the right candidate for the school corporation.

The Eastern Pulaski School Board will be meeting in another work session tonight to further discuss criteria to be used in the Superintendent selection process.

The board had met April 23 to put some initial thoughts on paper and Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman will present those ideas again tonight to refresh discussion and initialize more input from the board on what they expect of his successor.

Candidates May Now Apply for Miss Pulaski County Pageant

  
 
The time has come to sign up for the Miss Pulaski County pageant.

Applications are available at the Eastern Pulaski and West Central School Corporations. Interested candidates must be at least 18 years of age as of June 1 and under the age of 21 by Aug. 16. Candidates should be involved in an organization such as 4-H, Girl Scouts or school clubs and the majority of the activities should take place in Pulaski County.

Applicants should not be married have no children.

The Eastern Pulaski School Board met Tuesday night in a work session.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman said that the board met in sort of a brainstorming situation to gather criteria and qualifications in what they’re looking for in a new superintendent. The board will be looking at state guidelines and the corporation’s needs when discussing a new leader in the corporation.

The Eastern Pulaski School Board will be meeting in a work session tonight at 5:30 p.m. ET in the distance learning lab. The work session will involve the discussion of criteria to be used in the superintendent selection process.

After 26 years at the helm of the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation, Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman announced that he would be retiring when his contract ends on June 30. The Eastern Pulaski School Board met in special session on Monday, March 18 and approved Klitzman’s request for retirement.

The board’s split vote on renewing Klitzman’s contract for the 2013-2014 school year prompted his decision.

The board is now tasked in finding his replacement. That process will begin tonight during the board’s work session.
