Police say two men were injured in a shooting near Culver early Friday. It happened near the area of State Road 17 and Fulton County Road 700 North, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department. Officers say a 911 call came in shortly after midnight from a man who said he’d been shot near a home in the area. When responders arrived, they say they also found a second man who’d been shot at a residence on State Road 17.

A Kewanna woman is accused of stealing more than $23,500 from her employer. Michelle Rigney, 51, was arrested on a felony theft charge after an Indiana State Police Investigation prompted when the area manager of Smith Farm Stores reported possible missing monies and deposits of store proceeds. Fulton County Man Uninjured After River Rescue
A Rochester man whose car plunged into the icy Tippecanoe River late Wednesday afternoon in Fulton County was pulled safely from the water. DNR officials responded to the Menominee Public Access Site and found Joshua Sexton on top of his car. Officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the cause of the crash and believe alcohol may have been a factor. The Rochester Fire Department and Indiana State Police also assisted with the rescue.
Rochester Man Arrested on Manufacturing Methamphetamine Charges
A 24-year-old Rochester man was arrested after a drug investigation reportedly turned up drugs within 1000 feet of a school. On Saturday morning, a drug investigation by officers from the Indiana State Police, the Rochester Police Department, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department led to the arrest of John David Wentzel on felony charges for manufacturing methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug precursors, and maintaining a common nuisance.
Cass County Man Arrested After Lengthy Manhunt
A day-long manhunt ended last night around 5:20 p.m. when officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police located Westly B. Winn, 34 of Lucerne, hiding in a rural Fulton County home.
Earlier in the morning, officers from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle Winn was driving. Winn allegedly drove the vehicle into a cornfield near Fulton County Roads 950 South and 600 West before he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers from multiple police departments set up a perimeter in an effort to contain Winn.
Joint Investigation Leads to Three Arrests in Fulton County
A joint criminal investigation by the Indiana State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department led to the arrests of two rural Fulton County residents Tuesday night, as well as a fugitive from South Bend. Police arrested 37-year-old Charla Richard and 45-year-old John Wise, both from 2183 W. 500 N. in Fulton County near Rochester, on felony charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Precursors, and Possession of a Police Scanner During the Commission of a Felony.
Suspect Shot During Police Standoff
A Fulton County man is in serious condition at a Fort Wayne hospital after being shot during a standoff with police. Nicholas S. Westerhoff, 46, was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne after the incident in the town of Fulton. It started around 8:15 last night with a report of a domestic situation with shots fired at a Brown Street home. Officers found Westerhoff holed up in the residence refusing to come out. The Indiana State Police North Emergency Response Team was called in to secure the area. Several attempts to negotiate with with Westerhoff were unsuccessful. He came to the door of the home around 11:40 p.m. and started firing his weapon, according to police. Officers returned fire, and Westerhoff was injured during the exchange. It’s unclear if his injury was self-inflicted or if he was shot by officers returning fire. No police officers were injured. The incident remains under investigation. Officers from the Indiana State Police, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester, Kewanna and Fulton Police Departments responded to the incident, along with the Liberty Township Fire Department and Fulton County EMS.
Culver Police Investigates Armed Robbery
The Culver Police Department is investigating an armed robbery incident at the Family Dollar store at 18701 State Road 10 in Culver.
On Saturday evening around 8:40 p.m. ET, a male subject entered the store and approached a cashier, displayed a weapon and bag and then demanded money at gunpoint. Employees followed the demands and an undisclosed amount of money was taken from the business. No one was injured.
Former Starke County Woman Found Murdered in Rochester Home
A former Starke County woman was found murdered at her home in Rochester.
Indiana State Police officers responded to 6832 W. Olson Road where the owners of the residence reported a possible murder. The residents came home from work and reportedly found a rear door to the house open. Police say the owners found Wilma Upsall’s body on the floor of the residence and investigators say she was shot and died from her injuries. An autopsy will determine an exact cause of death.
