The new Knox Farmers Market officially opens Saturday. From 8:00 a.m. to noon, vendors will be set up on Main Street between the Starke County Courthouse and the former Moose Lodge. It will serve as a lead-in to the city’s July 4th parade and Fun Day in the Park.

Summer events may be coming back after a year off due to the pandemic, but in order for that to happen, they’ll need some help. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council last week that things are lining up for the July 3 Family Fun Day, but they’re still trying to round up volunteers. “These events, it’s like starting all over,” he said. “You know, we’ve lost our continuity a little bit.”

While next month’s Fall Bash has been canceled, the City of Knox is already busy rescheduling many of the festivities for next July. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council last week that the city didn’t really have an option. “There’s no way we could meet any of the conditions set forth to have a gathering over 250 down there, so we just went ahead and canceled it,” he explained.

Knox Mayor Encourages More Support for City Fireworks Display
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok says the city got tremendous bang for its buck from July’s Fun Day in the Park and downtown fireworks display.
“It was a lot cleaner, a lot more organized, and we just drew a lot more people into townI ,” Estok said during Monday’s town hall meeting with residents. “I met a couple guys from Rensselaer that were playing cornhole. Not in the tournament, but they were there, and they loved every bit of it. So they’re going to tell their friends you can go to Knox and have a good time.” Continue reading
Breakfast, Business Openings Kick Off Knox Activities
Downtown Knox will be a hub of activity today. The Masonic Lodge is hosting a pancake breakfast this morning, followed by a rummage sale from 10 a.m. until dusk a their lodge at 208 N. Main Street across from the entrance to Wythogan Park. Proceeds from both events will benefit the Knox Lodge Masonic Miracles Fund. Continue reading
