More streetlights are coming to Starke Street in Hamlet. A total of eight lights have been ordered. As of the last town council meeting, officials had finalized their placement plans and were preparing for their installation. Six were to be placed along the sidewalk on the north end of Starke Street. The other two would go next to the benches in front of the Town Hall.

Credits Offered For Running Water to Prevent Frozen Pipes
With the cold weather comes frozen pipes, and many area residents are suffering from the inconvenience and expense of having no running water. However, many municipalities have offered residents a credit for letting their water run to prevent pipes from freezing.
Town of Hamlet to Celebrate 150 years
The Sesquicentennial celebration for the Town of Hamlet is tonight.
Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts and the town board members invite all Hamlet residents to take part in the celebration which includes opening a time capsule. The time capsule had been buried at the site of the Hamlet Town Hall for decades. It will be interesting to see what has changed in the town and what officials thought should be remembered during that time period.
Another time capsule will be filled and buried.
The celebration begins at 5 p.m. CT at the Hamlet Town Hall.
Government Offices will be Closed for the New Year Holiday
Full-service license branches will be closed on Saturday, January 1st in observance of New Year’s Day. Branches will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, January 4th at 8:30 a.m. prevailing time.
Government Offices Will be Closed for Christmas Holiday
Several government buildings will be closed due to the Christmas holiday.
The Post Office will be open Friday from 8:00 a.m. to Noon CT only. Mail will not be delivered until Monday, December 27th. The Starke County Courthouse and the Pulaski County Courthouse will be closed Thursday and Friday this week. The Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches will be closed Friday and will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, December 28th.
Many Activities are Scheduled Saturday and Sunday in the Kankakee Valley!
Even though Christmas Eve is a few days off, many children in our area will get some gifts early. The Starke County Abate organization will be handing out toys, clothing and food items to 90 families at the Bass Lake Golf Course on Saturday. “It will be at the Bass Lake Golf Course,” said Abate President, Terry Young. “We have 90 families that will be coming out this year. They were all sent out invitations to come. There are 240 kids and all the families will have a turkey and all kinds of gifts. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be there.” When it comes to a big heart for children, the 290 members of Abate are in the forefront.
