LaPorte Traffic Enforcement Effort Results in Six Arrests, 115 Citations

LaPorte City Police issued 115 tickets and made six arrests during a traffic enforcement blitz this month. They joined about 230 other law enforcement agencies in Indiana in the 24-day enforcement effort aimed at aggressive and impaired driving. The overtime patrols were funded by grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration distributed by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

LaPorte County Police Make 11 Arrests, Issue Over 100 Citations During Operation Pull Over Blitz

A recent Operation Pull Over blitz led to 11 arrests and more than 100 citations for the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office. The 24-day enforcement effort was funded with federal highway safety money administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Officers say they’ll continue to crack down on impaired driving, seat belt violations, and other crimes, through the remainder of the holiday period.

LaPorte, Bourbon Police Departments to Receive Grant Funding for Purchase of Body Armor

Some local police officers will soon have extra protection, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Several Indiana law enforcement agencies have gotten 50-50 matching grants to help buy ballistic or stab-resistant body armor, as part of the Bulletproof Vest Partnership. That’s according to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

LaPorte Police Department Announces Enforcement Blitz

 
 

LaPorte Police will be on the lookout for aggressive drivers during a special enforcement initiative that starts today. Through Jan. 24, officers will be working 30 hours of Operation Pull Over-funded patrols. They will be looking for behaviors such as running stop signs or automatic signals and failing to yield, following too closely, unsafe backing, speeding and driving too fast for conditions. Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Participate in Click it or Ticket

Click it or TicketA local law enforcement agency is taking part in a national and statewide driver safety initiative. The next Click It or Ticket enforcement effort kicks off Friday and continues through May 31. Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will join more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies on the lookout around the clock for drivers and passengers who aren’t wearing seat belts. LaPorte Police Department Renews Partnership with ICJI

 
 

The LaPorte City Police Department will be continuing in its partnership with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) with a $21,150 grant for Operation Pull Over which expires in September of 2015.

Operation Pull Over is an initiative by officers to reduce traffic crashes and related injuries and fatalities with planned enforcement. The officers work toward monitoring dangerous driving behavior such as speeding, sign/signal violations, following too closely, reckless driving, texting while driving, and other unsafe driving behavior to reduce crashes. Police also conduct seat belt and child restraint enforcement to increase restraint use.

Click it or Ticket Campaign to Begin May 9

 The Indiana State Police will be out in full force beginning Friday, May 9 for the Click it or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign. The enforcement will continue until June 1.

More than 250 law enforcement agencies in Indiana will conduct special controls to identify and ticket unrestrained drivers and passengers. The focus will be on the Memorial Day weekend.

TXT L8R Contest to Offer $5,000 in Scholarships

 
 
High school and college students are encouraged to take part in a social media contest sponsored by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, Indiana Department of Labor, Indiana Department of Transportation and the Indiana State Police.

The entities have partnered to award $5,000 in scholarships to students who compose the most creative, inspiring and viral posts on Twitter, Instagram or Vine using the slogan “Drive Now. TXT L8R.” The high school and college student whose post has the most tweets, retweets and favorites on Twitter will win. For Vine and Instagram entries, the most likes and the most creative will win.

Ind. Criminal Justice Institute To Raise Awareness of Texting and Driving

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute announced Wednesday that it will be partnering with Attorney General Greg Zoeller and AT&T in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving. The Indiana General Assembly passed House Enrolled Act 1129 in 2011, making illegal the practice of texting while driving.

Indiana Criminal Justice Institute Traffic Safety Division Director Ryan Klitzsch says this important piece of legislation has already saved lives and is an important step in efforts to ensure the safety of all Hoosier motorists.
