North Judson Police are looking for a man who robbed a store Sunday evening and fled on foot. He went into the Dollar General on East Talmer Avenue around 4:45 p.m., according to police, waited until the clerk was alone, approached and demanded money. The clerk cooperated, and the man left. A tip from another police department led to the Friday arrests of three people allegedly involved in manufacturing methamphetamine. Former Sheriff, Chief Deputy Under Investigation
A former sheriff is the subject of a criminal investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds and missing equipment. A State Board of Accounts audit of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department released this morning found missing firearms valued at more than $7,500 and ammunition purchases of more than $13,000 between 2011 and 2014. The latter are incompatible with the firearms in inventory and used by the county sheriff’s officers, according to the audit. Mike Gayer was sheriff at that time. New Information Emerges in North Judson Police Shooting
The North Judson man shot by police responding to a call at his residence is in stable condition at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. That’s where 29-year-old Richard Joseph Benwell was airlifted early Tuesday afternoon with what was described as a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin says sheriff’s deputies and North Judson Police were notified by dispatchers of a man hitting his fiancée’s car with a sledgehammer in the 5000 block of 800 South. That’s southwest of North Judson.

A domestic violence call to a rural North Judson residence late this morning ended with an officer-involved shooting. Officers from Starke County Sheriff’s Office and North Judson Police Department responded to a residence southwest of town around 11:45 a.m. That’s when investigators say a man got into a fight with officers and was shot. A Plymouth man faces a pair of felony offenses in Starke County following the recent robbery and beating of an elderly Knox man. An officer from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office was called to the IU Health Starke Hospital emergency room Wednesday, Oct. 7 after Sisco Wireman was brought in after an apparent assault.
