Winamac Town Council Considers New Insurance Agency

Winamac Town Council members considered a change to the town’s insurance agent when members met in a special meeting Monday night.

The town’s current provider is Budd Insurance Agency. They offer the town liability and property insurance for $57,291 and workers’ compensation for $16,271 for a total charge of $73,562. The town received a counteroffer from ONI Risk Partners. Representative Alex Dickman noted that they could broaden the services for the town while simultaneously providing them at a lower cost. Medaryville Town Council Adjusts Employee Policy Book As Requested by Insurance Provider

The Town of Medaryville’s employee policies are getting a slight update, at the request of the town’s insurance provider. Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood says the policy book was just adopted by the town council last year. But since then, the insurance company has asked the town to make some minor language changes and add more information about who’s covered.

Individual FEMA Assistance Now Available to Pulaski and Starke County Residents Impacted by the Flooding

According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Individual Assistance from FEMA is now available to 13 more counties, including Starke and Pulaski.

Now that Starke and Pulaski counties are eligible for Individual Assistance, homeowners and renters whose primary residence was damaged by the flooding that occurred between February 14th and March 4th can apply for federal disaster assistance.

The funds are intended to cover uninsured losses for flood damages. Individuals are encouraged to register with FEMA before the deadline of Thursday, July 5th. Continue reading →

Winamac Park Board Considers Insurance Requirements for Sports Leagues

Winamac may be getting a new adult softball league, but the idea has led to larger questions about insurance requirements. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo told the park board last week that he’s heard from someone who’s interested in using the large softball diamond for an over-18, coed league. DeLorenzo was told that almost 60 people have expressed interest.

Pulaski County EMS Still Working to Resolve Ambulance, Staffing Issues

After months of discussions, one of Pulaski County’s ambulances will be repaired, but now another one is out of service. That’s what EMS Director Bryan Corn told the county commissioners last week. He said the ambulance that was heavily damaged in an accident on Christmas Eve was in Iowa being repaired by its original builder. “The insurance company finally gave that the go-ahead for them to fix that,” Corn said. “That truck hopefully, according to Iowa, will be back to us sometime next week.”

Pulaski County to Get Less Than Previously Expected for Wrecked Sheriff’s Department Pickup Truck

Pulaski County’s insurance payout for a wrecked police vehicle is a bit less than previously expected. Sheriff Jeff Richwine previously announced that the county would get over $20,000 for a 2012 pickup truck that was totaled in an accident several months ago. Last week, he told the county council that the check will only end up being for about $17,000.

North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Alerts Town Council Members of $6,000 Insurance Policy Premium Increase

When the North Judson Town Council met Tuesday evening, Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe alerted town council members that the town’s insurance policy premium increased from $56,000 in 2017 to about $62,000 for this year.

Rowe said he has recently been working with Christin Romine, an insurance accountant executive with 1st Source Bank in order to familiarize himself with the town’s history and current policy. He explained that after talking with her, he found that a large factor for the increase is the amount of claims that the town filed over the last few years.

Council President Wendy Hoppe recalled that in 2015, within the span of a few months they lost three police vehicles, including a Dodge Charger and two Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars. Continue reading →

Pulaski County Commissioners Approve Insurance Switch

Pulaski County will have a new insurance provider in 2018. The county commissioners voted last week to switch to Bliss McKnight. The company’s premium is about $5,500 more than what the county’s current provider was offering for next year, but still about $6,000 less than what the county paid in 2017.

State Changes Prompt Bonding Alterations in Pulaski County

The state of Indiana requires that public officials carry bond amounts as a form of financial protection to the employees as well as local governments. Changes that are anticipated to go into effect on January 1st, however, have prompted some alternations in the bonding policies offered.
