Narcotics officers in LaPorte County concluded an investigation into heroin dealing in the local area.
Five individuals, all of which were arrested on drug related counts, brought to an end an extended multi-month investigation. According to information released by the LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit and Narcotics Task Force, the investigation closed out 19 active illicit drug cases.
Investigation Not Yet Complete for Winamac Eagles Fire
Officials will continue their investigation Friday following a major fire at the Winamac Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #2580.
It took firefighters from multiple agencies about 10 hours to extinguish flames and contain hotspots in the rubble. Responders were able to leave the scene around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Fire Destroys Winamac Eagles Location
Firefighters continued to battle flames on Wednesday afternoon that resulted from a morning fire in Winamac.
The Winamac Eagles Post #2580, located in the 600 block of West 11th Street, caught fire around 8:25 a.m. EDT. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but three State Fire Marshal’s were called to the scene to investigate.
Investigation Ongoing After LaPorte Fire Station Burglarized
A rural LaPorte County fire station is missing some equipment following a burglary.
The incident occurred at Coolspring Township Station #2 – that’s located on Shebel Road near County Road 100 North. LaPorte County Sheriff’s investigators say the fire station is unmanned and in a remote location.
One Dead in North Judson Hit-and-Run
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after one person was pronounced dead near North Judson on Sunday morning.
Officers received the call around 1:30 Sunday morning and responded to the area of South Dawn Drive East. Several individuals were attempting to provide aid to the victim – who’s name is not being released at this time.
LaPorte County Investigators Seeking Help After Mysterious Phone Call
The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after receiving a mysterious phone call on Friday afternoon.
The call came in a few minutes after 4:00 p.m. from a Trac phone with no return number. According to a recording of the call, a female said she was at the Harley Davidson store in the area of County Road 300 North and US 421 and was in distress.
Sex Offender Arrested After Month-Long Investigation
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department says an investigation has led to the arrest of a sex offender.
40-year-old Bob Conley of North Judson was taken into custody on preliminary charges of Sex Offender Registry violations. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Department worked over the course of a month to make the arrest after receiving an anonymous tip.

Armed Robbery Under Investigation in LaPorte County
An armed robbery near the LaPorte/Porter county line is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department.
According to a news release, the incident happened this morning around 5:30 a.m. at Gallop’s Marathon. A 59-year-old truck driver told authorities he was sitting in the cab of his semi-truck when the suspect opened the door and pointed a gun at the victim.
LaCrosse Grain Elevator Decisions in Holding Pattern
A grain storage company is still awaiting reports from several key agencies to make any decisions.
More than one month has passed since a Co-Alliance grain elevator – used for hog feed – exploded in LaCrosse. Flames took fewer than 30 minutes to extinguish, but four employees were injured, being treated for burn wounds. All had been released from the hospital by early May.

LaPorte Jail Inmate Pronounced Dead, Investigation Ongoing
The death of an inmate at the LaPorte County Jail is prompting an investigation.
The female inmate was found unresponsive by authorities around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. CPR was applied, but was unable to resuscitate the victim. Her name has now been released by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. 33-year-old Rachel Barnes was described as the victim.
One Injured in Pulaski County Accident
A single vehicle car accident has left one man with severe injuries.
Emergency responders in Pulaski County were called to the scene of an accident around 7:15 p.m. EDT to the area North of 200 North on 14 West. Authorities say witnesses in the area saw a Chevrolet Silverado crash after leaving the roadway, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.
Additional Witnesses Testifying in C&C Salvage Arson Trial
The trial of a man accused of setting C&C Salvage on fire around this time last year continued Wednesday morning.
The businesses’ bookeeper and Office Manager Jose’ Delgado has been testifying since this morning. According to WKVI reporters at the scene, Delgado said in court that business had slowed down, even posting a loss in 2013. Delgado was briefly considered a suspect in the investigation according to previous reports.
