The Leadership Starke County class of 2014-2015 has graduated. The 15 participants spent the past nine months honing community leadership skills, building self-confidence and interacting with community leaders. The class included a student from each of the county’s three high schools. Members met one day per month at sites throughout the county and learned about local history, geography and culture, the local economy, government, education and social services. Starke County Commissioners Consider Moving Drug Testing
The Starke County Commissioners are considering moving the drug testing of some government employees, including the highway department, to Midwest Toxicology. At this week’s Commissioners meeting, Highway Superintendent, Steve Siddall, said when he sends an employee to IU Health Starke Hospital, it could take hours for them to have the drug test administered. In case the Emergency Room is busy, they must wait. Siddall said that he fully understood that the ER room takes precedent, but that with Midwest Toxicology there would be no waiting period.
IU Health Starke Hospital, Knox Elementary PTO Community Project a Success
The Knox Community Elementary School PTO and staff members from IU Health Starke Hospital participated in a community project at the Knox Elementary School. IU Health Starke Hospital donated $3,000 and the PTO bought two semi loads of mulch which was placed around the playground equipment and leftover mulch was placed in flower beds and other places around the Elementary School.
