NJSP Superintendent Provides a Peek at Some Preliminary Work Being Done on Lease Rental Bond Projects

North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin had a plethora of project updates to provide to the school board when they met Tuesday night.

Dr. Zupin informed the board that although they won’t be receiving money from their lease rental bonds until January, plenty of preliminary work has been done so far. She stated that quotes are out for the bathroom partition replacement portion of the project and she anticipates that work to be completed over Christmas Break while students are out of the building. Culver Community School Board Accepts Berndt’s Resignation

The Culver Community School Board will be looking for a person to fill the position of middle/high school assistant principal and test coordinator.

The board members on Monday night accepted the resignation of Julie Berndt who occupied those roles at the school corporation. During her career at Culver Community Schools, Berndt served as assistant principal at Culver Elementary, principal at Culver Middle School and principal at Monterey Elementary.

ISTEP Testing Continues This Week at Culver Schools

The Culver School Board received an update on the status of ISTEP testing during their meeting Monday Night. Middle/High School Assistant Principal and Curriculum Director Julie Berndt takes on the role of testing coordinator when it comes to this mandatory state testing. She explained to the board that students in grades 3 through 8 participate in English/Language Arts and Math in addition to Social Studies and Science testing during a period of two weeks. Each grade is tested individually and teachers monitor the work in a locked classroom. Tenth grade students also participate in testing.

Culver School Board Reverses Administrative Cut, Delays Naming Permanent Superintendent

Culver Community School CorporationThe Culver Community Schools Corporation has changed its plans for administrative cuts, due to some recent resignations. Last December, the school corporation recommended cutting two administrative positions, as well as some teaching jobs, as a cost-saving measure. The school board moved ahead with that process earlier this year, voting not to renew the contract of Assistant Principal/Title 1 Director Julie Berndt. Continue reading →

Culver Schools Reaches Initial Fundraising Goal for Marketing Project

Culver Community School CorporationA fundraising campaign to help the Culver Community Schools Corporation improve its marketing efforts has reached its first goal. Last week, a GoFundMe account created by a group of volunteers working on the marketing component of the school corporation’s strategic plan surpassed $6,000. That’s enough money to pay for a new brand and logo family created by VIP Branding. Apple to Host Technology Discussions at Culver

Culver Community School Corporation’s One-to-One Technology Initiative is receiving some positive attention, and Principals Albert Hanselman and Julie Berndt informed the board this week of an upcoming presentation hosted by Apple to allow visitors from other school corporations to see the iPad initiative in action. According to Superintendent Brad Schuldt, the event will give visitors a chance to talk to Apple representatives regarding products, services, and their costs, as well as speak to Culver employees regarding the use of the technology and get an idea of the major successes and problems with the program.

Monterey Elementary School Closes

It was a sad day in Monterey yesterday as the elementary school closed for the last time. In a building that had students enrolled since 1934, there were hugs and tears on that final day.

“We had an awards program this morning and prior to that, we had a photographer come and he took a picture of all the staff and students out in front of the building,” said Principal Julie Berndt of the last day. “At the end of the program, we surprised the kids by loading them up in school buses and the fire department led us through town with the sirens screaming. We took two laps around town and the kids really enjoyed it as well as the staff.” Continue reading →
