Are you ready to rock? If you answered yes, bring your bowling ball to Bowlaway Lanes in Knox this evening to support a great cause, the Junior Achievement Rock ‘n Bowl Bowl-A-Thon. Proceeds from the annual event will help fund financial literacy programs at all three Starke County school corporations. President Bridget Markin says there are still slots available for bowlers and lane sponsors. Give her a call at 574-806-1799 or drop by the bowling alley around 5:45 p.m. The event gets under way at 6. Markin says this year’s fundraising goal is $3,000. You can also contact her to pledge funds for the cause.

This is an annual fundraiser where members of the community and business leaders come together for a night of fun while raising money for a worthwhile youth organization.

Sixth grade students at West Central Middle School took part in Junior Achievement’s Global Marketplace program on Friday, May 10.
Community businessmen and businesswomen served as mentors volunteering their time and sharing their life experiences with the students to make the program a success.

Several teams have signed up to have some fun and raise money for the students of Starke County. Junior Achievement reaches kids in grades two through 12 and teaches them about financial lteracy. Volunteers and business people from the community teach those classes.
With summer closed and fall just beginning, kids are back in school throughout Indiana, but they’re not alone in their return as businessmen and women are volunteering their time to present Junior Achievement of Pulaski County programs to local students. JA volunteers are instrumental in bringing Junior Achievement to life through sharing their personal and professional experiences with students. Combined with Junior Achievement’s age-appropriate curricula, students are able to connect what they learn in school with what they will need to succeed in both work and life.

In an effort to introduce students to business operations and economic issues in the United States, volunteers from the community hosted the Junior Achievement’s Our Nation program for fifth grade students at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School on May 18.
Nancy Griffeth, Lori Brumm, Jenny Keller, and Denise Hattinger graciously gave their time to mentor the youths during the Junior Achievement in a Day.
The Starke-Pulaski Junior Achievement Organization is gearing up for a night of bowling at Bowlaway Lanes in Knox. This is the first of what is hoped to be an annual fund-raising event, and it will be held Wednesday night, February 23rd.
Each County is organizing teams to bowl.
The Starke County Community Foundation made the holiday bright for many community organizations during its 2010 Grant Award Banquet. Over $24,000 was awarded on Monday, December 6th at the Community Center in Knox.
The grants are part of the Community Foundation’s Unrestricted Funds which allow the Community Foundation to assess the greatest needs of the community and assist the individual agency programs. Since 1998, the Community Foundation has awarded over $1.7 million to local organizations and projects that make a difference in Starke County.
