Three people were arrested on drug charges that stemmed from a traffic stop in Pulaski County on Saturday.
A Winamac Police officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding and the K9 officer was called to the location of the traffic stop. The K9 reportedly alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. In a subsequent search of the vehicle, methamphetamine and marijuana were found along with drug paraphernalia. Kim Baker, 60, of Winamac, was placed into custody and taken to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department for questioning.
Starke County Sheriff’s Department to Utilize Third K9
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department will have a third K9 unit.
Sheriff Bill Dulin asked the Starke County Commissioners for permission to officially approve the addition to the department Monday night.
Starke County Commissioners to Meet Tonight
The Starke County Commissioners will meet tonight where Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin will discuss a job description for a part-time employee and request approval of a third K9 for the department. The job description was discussed with the Starke County Council members in January after they learned an employee was doing duties outside of the position for which he was hired. The job description should resolve the issue.
NJ Town Council Members Invited to Attend K9 Pick-Up at Vohne Liche Kennels
On Monday night, North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher invited council members to tag along with NPJD as they venture to Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana on Tuesday, February 20th.
Marshal Fisher mentioned that Officer Rico Simpson will have over 300 dogs to choose from. The chosen animal will then go home with Officer Simpson for a week in order for them to bond and get familiarized.
After the week is complete, Simpson will attend six weeks worth of training, five days a week at the Vohne Liche facility. Continue reading

Fundraising Efforts Continue for Knox Police K9
The Knox Police Department is approaching the halfway point in terms of fundraising for the purchase of a K9. Police Chief Harold Smith told the board of works on Wednesday they’ve raised $7,300 of the $17,000 to cover the cost of buying and training the dog and its handler. April Color Run To Support Starke County K-9
An event coming up at the end of April is looking to support the Starke County K-9 Drug Unit.
The 4-H Color Me Green run/walk will take place at Wythogan Park in Knox on April 30th, and is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and activities in the Starke County community. Funds raised will benefit the Starke County Sheriff’s Department in a few ways.

K9 Busts Two Knox Men on Heroin Charges
Two Knox men were arrested on Wednesday after Starke County authorities allegedly found them in possession of heroin.

Law enforcement was unable to locate any illicit substances during a lockdown drill this morning at Knox High School and Middle School.
Starke County Sheriff Still Raising Money for K9
Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin is still collecting donations to add a second drug and search dog to the force. The dog and training for its handler will cost about $16,000. Dulin says the sheriff’s office is about $3,000 short of that goal. Fundraisers will be scheduled later this summer. Meanwhile, cash donations or money orders made out to “Starke County K9 Fund” can be dropped off at the jail. Personal checks will not be accepted. All contributions are tax deductible. Knox Board of Public Works Approves Loan of K9 Kennel
The Starke County Sheriff’s Office will have a vehicle kennel for another K9 when the time comes to purchase another dog.
The Knox Board of Public Works agreed to loan the city-owned kennel to the county to help reduce the county’s costs toward another K9 unit. Mayor Rick Chambers explained that the Knox City Police Department no longer has a K9 unit and had the kennel in storage. Sheriff Bill Dulin requested the use of the kennel and the request was granted Wednesday morning.
Starke County Sheriff Raising Funds for Second K9
Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin hopes to raise enough money through donations to add a second drug and search dog to his department. The county commissioners Monday gave him permission to proceed with fundraisers to cover the cost of a dog, training for the animal and its handler. Starke County K9 Performs Routine Sweep at Local School
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department K9 did a routine sweep at the Oregon-Davis School Corporation on Thursday morning.
Handler Rob Olejniczak took K9 Terror around the corporation to search for possible drugs in lockers and the parking lot. No evidence of any illegal drugs was found.
Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin and the officers are appreciative of the school’s effort to keep Starke County a safe environment. Principal Tim Pletcher and School Resource Officer Frank Lonigro were also recognized for their efforts.
