As the Knox Community School Corporation considers future building improvements, school officials are taking a closer look at the corporation’s existing facilities. Back in December, the school board hired architectural firm Schmidt Associates to conduct a facilities study.
Knox Elementary School Gets $500 Donation for Student Lunch Accounts
Knox Elementary School students who need help with school expenses will get some assistance. A $500 donation for delinquent lunch accounts from A.L. Olson Real Estate was formally accepted by the school board last week.
Knox School Board Moves 2019 Graduation Date
The Knox High School Class of 2019 will get to graduate a week sooner. The school board last week voted to move next year’s commencement ceremony from June 6 to May 31.
Knox School Board Approves Budget Transfer for Potential Bus Purchase
The Knox Community School Corporation may be able to purchase an extra bus, thanks to some leftover funds. Treasurer Sherry Fort told the school board last week that the corporation’s Bus Replacement Fund has built up a significant cash reserve over the years, but this year’s budget only gives them permission to spend $325,000.

The Knox Community School Corporation stands to make at least $265,000 by selling unneeded student laptops. With the school corporation getting new Chrome Books over the summer, the school board decided last week to sell 1,000 MacBook Air devices.

Starke County School Officials to Work Together on Improving School Safety
Last week’s school shooting in Florida has prompted Starke County school officials to work together to improve students’ safety.
Knox Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Tuesday that he’s been coordinating safety discussions with the Starke County prosecutor. “Nick Bourff has come in and met with me this week and said, ‘How can I help?’ And so we are pulling all of the school safety specialists in the county together, and we’re going to meet right here in about a week, and our principals and our staff will be here, as well.
