Speeding vehicles are drawing concerns from residents on the east end of John Street in Knox. Linda and Dave Metz told the city council Tuesday that there are no speed limit signs on eastbound John Street past Williams Street, and some drivers seem to think they may go as fast as they want. They said that with the number of children who live in the area, along with turkeys and deer in the woods along the street, there’s a high risk of an accident.
Knox Street Department to Inspect Alleyway
During their meeting yesterday evening the Knox City Council acted on a request from a citizen that was initially brought to their attention during a meeting earlier this month. At the July 15th meeting, local resident Steven Dodge presented a petition to establish a street on an existing city right-of-way to divert people away from the unofficial alley currently being used on his property at 801 S Bower St. At that meeting Dodge also showed the council research dating back to 1895 that showed a 33-ft-wide street was dedicated there between Portland and Bower streets. Knox Street Department Gearing up for the Winter Season
Knox Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the Knox Board of Public Works that the department is gearing up for the winter season. While they are still continuing with leaf and brush pick-up, they are getting the trucks ready to plow snow. The salt supply is good and the staff is making sure the plows are properly maintained to tackle what the winter season has to offer.
Wastewater Superintendent Kelly Clemons asked the board to approve a quote to remove ten trees from around the equipment at the wastewater plant. The lowest quote came in from the same company that assisted in the clean-up in Wythogan Park after a wind storm wreaked havoc in the park last year. The quote was for $8,500.
