Annual Christmas Cantata Scheduled for This Sunday
This Sunday, more than 40 singers from various churches around the community will perform at the Knox United Methodist Church as a part of the annual Community Christmas Cantata.

Choir Call-Outs for Community Christmas Cantata This Thursday
Though there are still a few other holidays coming up before Christmastime is officially here, practices for a December performance will start soon. Choir call-outs for this year’s Community Christmas Cantata will be Thursday at 6 p.m. CT in the Knox United Methodist Church. Brian Liechty and Nan Folkers are working together as directors for this year’s production and will hold choir practices at the church every Thursday at 6 p.m. following the initial call-out meeting. Knox United Methodist Church Welcomes New Pastor
Newly appointed pastor Dr. Dean Fager will preach his first message to the congregation of the Knox United Methodist Church tomorrow morning. The worship service begins at 9:16 a.m.
“I’m really excited about being here in Knox, not because everything is wonderful and great, but simply because of people that I’ve met so far indicate to me that this is a community that cares,” Fager said. “I’m looking forward to being part of a community that’s a caring community that looks for one another, that seeks to make others better. I’m really looking forward to my time in Knox.”
Knox Police Investigating Another Church Burglary
The Knox City Police Department is investigating another church burglary.
According to police, the United Methodist Church at 201 S. Shield Street was broken into Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Electronic equipment was stolen and the building suffered a lot of damage.
Knox officers believe that two suspects forced entry to building. The incident remains under investigation.
Proceeds From Psi Iota Xi Rummage Sale to Fund Scholarships
The Psi Iota Xi Sorority will be holding a Rummage Sale this Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. CST at the Knox United Methodist Church. The proceeds from this sale will be used to fund preschool and college scholarships for Starke County residents. Psi Iota Xi contributed over $3,000 to Starke County scholarships this year and are looking to increase that number. The Sorority is constantly looking for ways to give funds throughout our are with events like their Rummage Sale. Donations are made to worthy causes by Psi Iota Xi on a monthly basis. Christmas Cantata Set for Sunday
This year’s Cantata, “The Winter Rose”, is under the direction of Jim Oliverius, assisted by Brian Lietchy and Nan Folkers.
This year’s Cantata will be a complete unique music experience that will warm your heart for the Christmas season. Admission is free, but a free will offering will be taken.
Christmas Cantata Rehearsals to Begin Sept. 22
Any interested vocalists are encouraged to attend this call-out for this year’s performances. The choir grows more and more every year and the music blend keeps getting better and better.
This year’s Cantata will perform on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Community Choir To Present Christmas Cantata Sunday
The Community Choir will present the 15th Annual Christmas Cantata this Sunday, Dec. 9 with two performances at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Knox United Methodist Church.
Choir member Ken Whiles tells us what kind of music we can expect to enjoy.
“Most of them are new songs, but there are two or three of them that do include some familiar songs,” said Ken Whiles. “They’re primarily new songs that fit into the theme of Christmas.”
Rummage Sale Planned to Benefit Drew Shearin Scholarship Fund
The Drew Shearin Scholarship Fund is receiving some support from local student Taylor Kemble, who has organized a rummage sale to take place Friday, May 4 at the Knox United Methodist Church. Kemble says that because this will likely be her last rummage sale, she felt she needed to benefit someone who had a huge impact on her life– the late Drew Shearin.
“Well, I’ve been doing this for, I believe, the past four years now, and I just decided that since this was probably going to be my last rummage sale, I wanted to do something for Drew because he was a huge part of my life, and he inspired me to do many things and I just decided that this was going to be dedicated to him,” said Kemble. Maxinkuckee Singers Perform at Knox United Methodist Church
The Maxinkuckee Singers performed last night at the Knox United Methodist Church. It was the next to last performance of the season for the Singers whom have entertained audiences for over two decades with their Christmas show.
The compact one hour show is filled with the traditional, sacred, and humorous songs of the season.
SCILL Center Coat Drive Now at 500 Coats
SCILL Center Director Jerry Gurrado said that over 500 coats have been collected in their coat drive this year.
Do you need a coat? Is your family in need of coats? Gurrado said that the coats will be distributed at the Knox United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CT this Saturday, on December 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CT at the Knox Christian Church, and on December 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CT at the Knox United Methodist Church. Knox High School Student to hold Fundraiser for Food Pantry
During the downturn in the economy, a lot of people are in need of the bare essentials. Over 250 families a month have depended on the Starke County Food Pantry to help feed their families.
Now Knox High School student, Taylor Kemble has stepped out, and on her own, put together a rummage sale to help buy food for the pantry.
“This year it will be at the Knox United Methodist Church and it will be this Friday, September 30th, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 1st, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.,” said Kemble. “All proceeds will go toward the Starke County Food Pantry and all items will be $.50 unless otherwise marked.”
Donations will be accepted today from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Knox United Methodist Church.
Knox High School Freshman Sponsors Service Project
Knox High School Freshman, Taylor Kemble, is sponsoring another service project.
“I’m having my fourth annual rummage sale,” Taylor announced. “It will be at the Knox United Methodist Church and it will be this Saturday, April 2nd fro 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All proceeds will be used to buy backpacks for school children in Knox, and Oregon-Davis and North Judson elementary schools. All items will be $.50 unless otherwise marked and I will also be taking donations this year and they will be accepted March 31st and April 1st at the Knox United Methodist Church from 3:30-5:30 p.m.”
Taylor is asking that items be taken to the Knox United Methodist Church from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
“I will take any item,” she said. “I have a loft bed that I’m hopefully going to be able to sell. I will accept any items. I actually had an exercise bike donated one year.”
Taylor has sponsored projects that have had national recognition. She was honored by then-First Lady Laura Bush. For more information on Taylor’s annual service project, call 772-7746.
Christmas Cantata Held During Snow Storm
Fifty-five singers from several area churches braved the snow and cold Sunday to provide two concerts for area residents during the annual Christmas Cantata, held at the Knox United Methodist Church.

Even though Christmas Eve is a few days off, many children in our area will get some gifts early. The Starke County Abate organization will be handing out toys, clothing and food items to 90 families at the Bass Lake Golf Course on Saturday. “It will be at the Bass Lake Golf Course,” said Abate President, Terry Young. “We have 90 families that will be coming out this year. They were all sent out invitations to come. There are 240 kids and all the families will have a turkey and all kinds of gifts. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be there.” When it comes to a big heart for children, the 290 members of Abate are in the forefront.

Diana Jedynak, 67, died of fire related injuries after her home caught fire early Monday morning in Washington Township. Indiana State Fire Marshal, Fred Sumpter, said the investigation into the cause of the fire was postponed due to the weather conditions and the integrity of the structure.
The Northwest Indiana Forum’s Board of Directors have voted to acknowldge the organization’s service territory to extend beyond Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Starke Counties to include Newton, Jasper and Pulaski Counties.
Starke County Ministerial Alliance’s Thanksgiving Dinner is Wednesday
The annual Starke County Ministerial Alliance community-wide Thanksgiving service has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 24th at the Knox United Methodist Church.
Pastor Art Good will present the Thanksgiving message and several musical selections will be offered by representatives of area churches. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. CT.
The Alliance uses the love offering taken at the service to fund expenses for gasoline, food and/or lodging when needy travelers pass through the community.
