Hall of Fame Pro Bowler, Mike Aulby, will be at Bowlaway Lanes in Knox tonight to help promote the Junior Achievement Bowl-a-Thon.

Brandy Love, of the South Bend Chocolate Company, visited the Henry F. Schricker Library in Knox yesterday to talk about chocolate.
South Bend Chocolate was established in 1991 with Notre Dame products. Since that time, they have added to that and now have over 350 products sold at 20 locally owned or franchise stores.
Brandy showed those gathered the fruit that helps produce chocolate.

Memorial services will be held today in Lakeland, Florida for Don Zingarelli, formerly of Knox. While living in Knox, Mr. Zingarelli was the owner-operator of Coiffeurs by Donato beauty salon. He also managed the Bass Lake Golf and Country Club and the Old Pro Restaurant.
There is technically not an active Knox Kiwanis Club. Even though the remaining members have not given up their charter, the club has for many months been an associate member of the North Judson Club.
What happened to this once proud club? According to Todd Wallsmith, who tried to keep the club together with membership drives, it was the “perfect storm” of calamities that doomed the club.
When Kurt Kemble’s granddad told him as a child that he should aspire to be a postal employee, he didn’t think much about it. Following in granddad’s footsteps was the furthest thing from his mind. But fast forward a few decades and here he is the Acting Postmaster of the Knox Post Office.
Granddad’s piece of advice came from a man who knew what he was talking about. You see, his granddad was Charlie Hasnerl, who had been Postmaster of the Knox Post Office for a quarter of a century.
A 1999 Knox High School Graduate is the Indiana Non Commissioned Officer of the Year. Staff Sergeant Jerry Nenycz, of Plymouth, won the honor in head-to-head competition with eight other soldiers. Nenycz was asked about the competition.
“I went through a preliminary a month ago, then last weekend I went to state competition and won the right to represent my state at Regional at Camp Grayling, Michigan,” Nenycz said.
We asked Nenycz if he wins at the Regional would it mean going on to the national competition.
The Junior Achievement Bowl-a-Thon is this Wednesday, April 11th at 6:00 p.m. CT, at Bowlaway Lanes in Knox where native Hoosier and Hall of Fame Pro Bowler, Mike Aulby, will be in attendance to sign autographs and help cheer on the teams in the tournament.
Junior Achievement Board President, Bridget Markin, says there are great teams already signed up and there is room for three more five-member teams.
They gave it their all, but the burger defeated them.
WKVI’s Tom Berg and Lenny Dessauer took the challenge at the Downtown Depot on Saturday, along with others from the community. Sadly, no one could finish the giant burger. Mike Sharkozy was the winner of the NCAA Bracket Challenge contest and he took home a laptop computer today from Radio Shack in Knox.
We learned a little bit about Mike Sharkozy when he stopped by the studio to pick up his prize.
“I am a Senior at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne as an education major,” said Sharkozy. “I’ll be student teaching next fall at Bishop Dwenger and I’m pretty excited about that. I guess I’m just your typical college student who likes to watch college basketball.”
It was his first time playing Movie Quote Trivia, but that didn’t stop Jason Allen of Knox from guessing the movie, “Natural Born Killers,” and getting his name entered into the drawing for a 32-inch LCD television from Young’s TV and Appliance in Plymouth.
Allen says that this was his first time playing this contest, but he’s competed in various WKVI contests and drawings. That didn’t stop him from getting his hopes up, however, as he laid in bed with his phone in his hand.
Attorney Nicholas T. Otis, of Newby Lewis Kaminski & Jones, of LaPorte, has been retained by Mr. Robert “Ryan” Corbin regarding the pending criminal charges in Starke County.
In a news release to WKVI, Otis says that established Indiana law does not support the charges of attempted child seduction against Corbin. There is no evidence that Mr. Corbin was in the physical presence, or in the immediate vicinity, of the alleged victim when the alleged statements were made.
WKVI Radio has received word from June Binkley that her brother, Don Zingarelli, passed away in Florida. Don, at one time, was a Knox businessman and he was a Knox High School graduate. His most famous endeavor was as the owner-operator of Coiffures by Donato located in downtown Knox. His wife, Mary Ann, writes the following information:
FEMA and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be hosting a Flood Risk Information Open House on Tuesday, April 17th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Knox Community Center. The Open House will provide Starke County residents with an opportunity to review a recently completed preliminary Flood Insurance Study and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps.
Local groups are planning fundraisers to help pay for annual Fourth of July fireworks celebrations.
The Winamac VFW and the Winamac Kiwanis Club are teaming up to raise money for the Fourth of July display at the Winamac Town Park. A fish fry fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 6th from 4:00-7:30 p.m. ET at the Winamac VFW. Marita Grisel, President of the Winamac Kiwanis Club, says that the VFW has returned to their prior supplier for the larger fish filets. The dinner is $8.00 which includes fish, baked beans and coleslaw. All the money raised will help defray the rising cost of the fireworks.
The Knox Community School Board has taken action against a teacher accused of inappropriate behavior with a 16-year-old student.
“The Board did approve a letter of suspension with pay for Mr. Ryan Corbin, teacher at Knox High School,” said Superintendent A.J. Gappa. “Beyond that, I’m not at liberty to discuss personnel matters so I have no further comment.”
The Board approved the letter during their regular Board meeting last night.
Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall set a $15,000 bond for Knox Community School swim coach Robert R. Corbin, who is charged with two counts of Attempted Child Seduction as Class D felonies. Corbin, 27, is also prohibited from making any contact with the victim.
In the affidavit in support of probable cause filed today in circuit court by Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff and prepared by Knox City Police Department Detective David Combs, it is alleged that on Wednesday, March 28, Knox Police Department Officer Chad Keen responded to a call and went to a residence in Knox. He was informed by the victim’s father that his sixteen-year-old daughter had been receiving inappropriate messages from a Knox teacher, and Officer Keen took printed pages of Facebook messages between his daughter and Corbin. The Knox City Police Department continues to investigate an alleged improper internet contact incident between a Knox High School gym teacher and a student.
Police investigated a complaint last week where a parent reported the act. Robert “Ryan” Corbin, 27, of Knox, was arrested Sunday as a result of the preliminary investigation. He faces preliminary charges of Child Seduction and Attempted Child Seduction, both Class D Felonies. He is being held in the Starke County Jail under no bond.
