A Knox man was sentenced on Wednesday in Marshall County Superior Court on charges of dealing methamphetamine.
33-year-old Ryan Smith was arrested in August of 2015 after a vehicle he was in was stopped by Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputies. An air sniff was conducted by a K9 Unit and indicated the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.
A three month investigation has led to the arrest of a pair of Knox residents on meth-related charges.
The City of Knox is reminding pet owners to get their dog tags for 2016. Dogs owners living within the city limits must purchase or renew their tags through the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office at City Hall. Continue reading
The United States Department of Agriculture is giving itself a pat on the back discussing programs available to rural residents in Indiana.
Knox mayor Dennis Estok further explained some of his proposals for the city during a town hall meeting Monday. Much of it was spent discussing his plans to bring the city’s July 4th fireworks back to Wythogan Park. It’s part of his effort to bring more people into the park and revitalize the Downtown Knox. The construction of a new facility for an expanding Knox business will remain on schedule after Knox Mayor Dennis Estok administratively authorized the purchase of a lift station to serve the site. City officials previously agreed to run water and sewer lines to the new Traffic Control Specialists, Inc. location west of Toll Brothers and Knox Fertilizer in the industrial park. The Knox City Council will decide tonight whether to give its final approval to ordinances raising water and sewer rates. The proposed rates are based on a study conducted for the city by accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok wants to revive a once proud Knox neighborhood. Parkview Heights was built in 1941 by the Federal Works Agency Division of Defense as worker housing for employees of the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant. During World War II the LaPorte County site was one of the largest shell-loading plants in the nation. Continue reading
Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver will present his long-term vision for funds from the county economic development income tax to the county council when they meet this evening. In previous meetings Weaver has expressed a desire to invest in road improvements in the Knox Industrial Park to make it more attractive to businesses looking to relocate or expand. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok is bringing the city’s July 4th fireworks display back to Wythogan Park. They’ve taken place at the Starke County Airport northwest of Knox for the past several years. Estok wants to bring them back downtown to ensure youngsters are able to attend. His plans call for a parade to kick off the celebration. Continue reading
“Project Attend,” a plan to improve school attendance of truant students, was discussed by the Knox School Board last night. Under the plan, school officials can inform the court of the student’s attendance records, grades, behavior and what they view is the problem as to why students are not attending regularly. This year, the Free File Alliance and the IRS have re-launched the Free File program. For 2016, there are 13 tax software providers that have made their federal tax return products available for free.

They’re raffling off the Indiana 200th Statehood Shotgun and NRA Indiana Hunting Tradition Rifle next month. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok’s assistant will be a full-time city employee. The council Tuesday night approved his request to amend the salary ordinance to reflect the shift from part to full time for that position and take it from 20 to 37.5 hours per week.
