Fireworks to Return to Wythogan Park

Knox Mayor Dennis Estok is bringing the city’s July 4th fireworks display back to Wythogan Park. They’ve taken place at the Starke County Airport northwest of Knox for the past several years. Estok wants to bring them back downtown to ensure youngsters are able to attend. His plans call for a parade to kick off the celebration.

Estok also wants to revive the Peppermint Parade as a kickoff to the Christmas season and eventually add a downtown street fair during the summer months as well. He concedes volunteers are needed to make these initiatives a reality.

He’s scheduled a town hall meeting for Monday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center to share information about these proposals and get input from Knox residents about other such events they would like to see scheduled. He hopes to put committees together to make the events a reality and instill a new sense of civic pride in the community.

Estok will be the guest on Sunday’s Kankakee Valley Viewpoints show at noon CST on WKVI.
