Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating, after a body was discovered in Lake Michigan Tuesday afternoon. Officers say the Coast Guard recovered the body of an unidentified male just offshore from the Michigan City Lighthouse around 4:30 p.m.

Body of Knox High School Graduate Found
The body of a missing former Knox High School graduate has been recovered.
Late last night, a boater and a member of the United States Coast Guard located 29-year-old Ron Wood, Jr.’s body approximately one mile off the shore of Lake Michigan near the far west border of Central Beach in Porter County, according to Indiana Conservation Officers. Continue reading
Ron Wood, Jr. Remains Missing
Indiana Conservation officers are continuing in their search for 29-year-old Ron Wood, Jr.
Wood, a Knox High School graduate, went missing after jumping into Lake Michigan Saturday night to attempt to rescue struggling swimmers who drifted from their boat a mile off shore. All swimmers were rescued by the US Coast Guard and nearby boaters except for Wood who remains missing.
Beach Hazards Statement Issued for Lake Michigan
If you’re heading to Lake Michigan in the next few days, stay out of the water. That’s the advice of the National Weather Service. Waves of up to 9 feet and strong rip currents are possible today and tomorrow, both of which make swimming extremely dangerous. Strong winds will cause wave heights to build up to 10 feet tonight. Dangerous conditions aren’t expected to subside until Wednesday evening.
Sequester Could Halt Great Lakes Restoration
A group of Great Lakes fans from Indiana and seven other states recently returned from that nation’s capital after trying to persuade Congress that the sequester – that is, automatic budget cuts – will hurt the lakes. Cleanup efforts at the Great Lakes are a massive, lengthy project funded significantly by federal dollars, and those cuts could mean the cleanup could grind to a halt; no more dredging toxic chemicals from within the bodies of water, stopping Asian carp from invading Lake Michigan, or monitoring bacteria in the water for safe swimming.
