A LaPorte County traffic stop led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer Thursday morning. A sheriff’s deputy says he pulled over an eastbound SUV on the Indiana Toll Road for traffic infractions. A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a large amount of an illegal drug and a pistol.

Sheriff’s deputies say they tried to pull over a westbound pickup truck in the 3500 block of East State Road 2, after a registration check reportedly alerted officers that the female owner was a wanted person. The male driver allegedly refused to stop and led officers on a chase through LaPorte.

A sheriff’s deputy says he was driving west on U.S. 20 near U.S. 35 when a computer check on the license plate of the vehicle in front of him revealed that it had been reported stolen.

Wade, 32, on U.S. 20 near Fail Road, for speeding and a pair of traffic infractions while changing lanes.

A suspect was reportedly shot by LaPorte County Police Thursday. Indiana State Police say the Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 7000 block of County Road 500 West, at around 5:15 p.m. When they got there, officers say they were immediately met by gunfire, and a police vehicle was struck. Officers reportedly shot back, hitting the suspect.
