Illinois Man Accused of Dealing Marijuana, Following LaPorte County Police Chase

An Illinois man was arrested on suspicion of dealing marijuana after allegedly leading LaPorte County Police on a pursuit early Saturday morning. Sheriff’s deputies say they pulled over a vehicle driven by Nikko J. Shack, 23, of Dolton, Illinois, after seeing it commit two traffic infractions on southbound U.S. 35 a few minutes after midnight.

New Prairie Middle School Student Arrested, Following Threat Investigation

LaPorte County Police say they’ve arrested a 13-year-old girl for intimidation, in connection with a threat that caused a “lockout” at New Prairie Middle School Friday. The sheriff’s office says Deputy Paul Adams, who serves as New Prairie’s school resource officer, continued to investigate the threatening text message over the weekend.

LaPorte Resident Dies in Rollover Crash on State Road 39

A single-vehicle rollover crash has claimed the life of a LaPorte resident. LaPorte County Police say it happened around 8:15 Saturday night on State Road 39 near the ramps to the Indiana Toll Road. Deputies believe a 2005 Ford SUV was heading north on State Road 39, when it left the east side of the roadway, rolled several times, became upright, and traveled back onto 39, before eventually coming to a stop.

LaPorte County Traffic Stop Leads to Lengthy Prison Sentence for South Bend Man

A South Bend man has been sentenced to almost 22 years in prison, in connection with a LaPorte County traffic stop that reportedly turned up heroin, crack, and a .38 caliber revolver back in April. Marvin Cates, 43, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

Pre-Halloween Compliance Sweep Turns Up Three Non-Compliant Sex Offenders in LaPorte County

With trick-or-treating coming up, police in LaPorte County teamed up Wednesday for a compliance check on the county’s sex offenders. Of the 102 people registered as sexually violent predators or offenders against children, three of them were found to be non-complaint, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

Man Arrested After Allegedly Attacking Security Deputies at Michigan City Courthouse

Two LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputies were injured Friday morning, after a man reportedly walked into the Michigan City Courthouse and started attacking them. The Sheriff’s Office says Joshua Duncan, 37, of Michigan City, was entering the security checkpoint and without warning, “sucker punched” Courthouse Security Deputy Jon Keene in the nose.

LaPorte Resident Injured in U.S. 35 Crash Wednesday Morning

 

A crash on U.S. 35 in rural LaPorte County Wednesday morning sent one person to the hospital. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 7:20 just south of Schultz Road. Officers believe Rachel Tibbs, 67, of LaPorte, was driving south on U.S. 35 in a 2014 Ford SUV, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, traveled into a ditch, and overturned, coming to a rest on its roof.

Four Arrested in Connection with Kingsbury Industrial Park Home Burglary

 

LaPorte County Police have arrested four people in connection with last month’s burglary of a home in the Kingsbury Industrial Park. It was initially reported on July 18. At the time, officers said a group of people had apparently vandalized the home and stole several items while the resident, a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran, was away visiting family.
