The new Starke County Veterans Memorial is almost halfway to its crowdfunding goal. If the effort raises $50,000 by July 21, that amount will be doubled by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. Almost $22,000 has been raised so far.

Upgrades to Railroad Street in Hamlet will have to wait until after the Starke County Fair. Engineer Lee Nagai told the town council Tuesday that all the contracts have been signed, and paving contractor Mark Milo tentatively plans to start the week after the fair.

Knox BOW Opens Blight Elimination Bids
The Knox Board of Public Works opened bids Wednesday morning for the demolition of 420 Maple Drive and 322 W. Spruce Street.
Three companies submitted bids for both structures. Mark Milo had a total bid of $17,840, Jackson Trucking and Excavating submitted a total bid of $18,998 while Chem Check, Inc. submitted a total bid of $43,000.
