More lawsuits have been filed in connection with last month’s fatal crash involving an Eastern Pulaski school bus. According to court documents filed with the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, Amber Despot, the mother of one of the passengers, is suing the driver of the truck that allegedly crashed into the bus, along with the truck’s owner.

Municipal Election Filings Continue
This is the last week for candidates seeking a city council office to file for the primary election. Candidates seeking office in a town populated with less than 3,500 residents have until Aug. 3 to file in this year’s Municipal Election.
Democrat Frank Lonigro, Jr. is seeking another term on the Hamlet Town Council while Democrat Judy Harwood will be running for another term for Medaryville Town Clerk-Treasurer.
Absentee Voting Now Open for General Election
Voters can now vote absentee in a county clerk’s office for the November General Election.
In Starke County, in-office absentee voting will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. CT in the second floor meeting room in the courthouse from now until Oct. 31. The same hours will apply for Saturday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 1.
Testing of Voting Machines Set in Marshall County
The Marshall County Election Board invites voters to test voting machines in a test session this week.
Testing will be of the automatic tabulating equipment to be used in the General Election on Nov. 4. This will allow all voters to familiarize themselves with the voting process and to properly cast ballots.
Starke County Clerk Issues Same-Sex Marriage License
The Starke County Clerk’s Office has issued its first license for a same-sex marriage. Clerk Evelyn Skronski tells WKVI news the application was made Wednesday, June 25 at 3:45 p.m. That was just a few hours after a federal judge struck down Indiana’s ban on same-sex marriage on constitutional grounds. Marshall County Voting Districts May Consolidate Further
The push to consolidate districts in Marshall County is still a matter of discussion, as the Marshall County Election Board will soon make a decision regarding the possible consolidation of Center Township districts 1 and 2, and districts 3 and 4. However, Donna Pontius, voter registration deputy clerk for Marshall County, said nothing has been decided definitively.
Marshall County Commissioners Table Clerk’s Purchase Request
A representative from the Marshall County clerk’s office presented a request to the commissioners to purchase office equipment.
Teri Stone, appearing on behalf of Clerk Julie Fox, asked the commissioners for a new computer and scanner for use by employees in the office. This would be in addition to the 22 computers in the office.
