Plymouth High School Students Participate in National Day of Service
Plymouth High School Key Club members participated in a National Day of Service on Monday to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Several students were at the Plymouth Fire Department washing fire trucks while others were lifting and carrying boxes down flights of stairs to help organize things at the Marshall County Museum. The animals at the Marshall County Humane Society got some exercise Monday morning when the students took them out for walks and played with them. The students also cleaned the cages and gave the animals food and fresh water.
Marshall County Museum and Weidner School of Inquiry Honor Local Veterans
The Marshall County Museum and the Weidner School of Inquiry recently teamed up to digitally record stories of World War II veterans. The Museum staff contacted nearly 40 known veterans and high school students to schedule face to face interviews. Continue reading
Jeff Blair Walking Along Lincoln Highway in Indiana
The President of the Indiana Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association is taking the time to walk along Lincoln Highway to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association and the Lincoln Highway Association.
Jeff Blair, a Goshen, Indiana native, will be walking through Hamlet, Plymouth and Etna Green this week. On Tuesday, April 29, Blair will enter Hamlet on his walk along the Lincoln Highway and he will stop by the Marshall County Museum on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3 p.m. ET. Then on Wednesday, he will continue on his route from Plymouth to Etna Green.
Indiana Bicentennial Workshop Planned at Marshall County Museum
A workshop will be held Monday, April 28 in order to assist in planning Indiana’s bicentennial celebration. The Indiana Historical Society will host the workshop at the Marshall County Museum at 123 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth.
Indiana turns 200 years old on Dec. 11, 2016, but work is being done now to plan the celebration. This will be an opportunity to celebrate the state’s identity and reflect on how the state has changed. It’s also a change to think creatively and a once-in-a lifetime chance to capture the attention of the public of the importance of Indiana history.
The workshop will include the Marshall County Museum staff and local organizations. It will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET and you are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. Drinks and dessert will be provided. If you plan to attend, call the Marshall County Museum at (574) 936-2306.
Marshall County Museum Hunting for Memorabilia
The Marshall County Museum is developing an open house and exhibit to debut in March, telling the story of how the rich history and vast influence of transportation helped shape the development of Marshall County. To aid in that, the museum is on the hunt for historic pictures and memorabilia from local gas stations, drive-ins, watering holes or any automotive-related business or industry in Marshall County from any era.

She reported that several students served as volunteers over the summer and hopes to extend the invitation for more students get involved during the school year. Rippy explained that several students come from the Plymouth schools but would welcome students from Argos, Bremen, Culver, Laville and Triton schools to come to the museum and volunteer.

Marshall Co. Museum Brings New Perspective to Political Figures
A new traveling exhibit has made its way to the Marshall County Museum from the Indiana Historical Society and it brings a whole new side to the political candidates who have traveled through the Hoosier state. Mindy Langdon, community relations for the museum, said the exhibit features 18 three-foot-wide free-standing exhibits that will be on display at the museum until June 27.
Langdon said the museum is blessed to have such a unique collection of photographs.
Museum Update Given to Marshall County Commissioners
The Marshall County Library Director Linda Rippy gave the commissioners a report on museum activities.
Rippy stated that the museum is now open on Sundays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. ET and has had a steady stream of visitors. Several area volunteers are assisting with tours and greeting visitors. The Plymouth High School Key Club is also helping with many activities at the museum.
Open House Scheduled for Plymouth’s Comprehensive Plan
The city of Plymouth’s new comprehensive plan is ready to be publicly displayed and can be seen during an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. ET tonight at the Marshall County Museum in downtown Plymouth.
It’s been six months in the making and a public hearing on the proposed plan will be held in April. The plan has been updated since being adopted in 2003.
Boy Scouts Exhibit Room Opens Soon
The grand opening and dedication of the Boy Scouts Exhibit Room will take place Saturday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Museum and Crossroads Center in Plymouth. The dedication ceremony for the new display is being organized by Clarence Shively with the participation of local Boy Scouts, and the public is encouraged the attend and support the scouts with their exhibit dedicated to the organization.
This historical collection of scouting artifacts from the Marshall County area is the result of many hours of work put in by Shively organizing and gathering items. Volunteer Mandy Chalk and curator Elizabeth Garza have also put forth effort for the collection, working with Shively to create the informational signs in the room.
