Marshall County Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Possession Arrest

When Marshall County police pulled over a speeding vehicle on Friday afternoon, a simple traffic stop turned into an arrest when officers stumbled on a cache of marijuana and paraphernalia in the purse of the back seat passenger.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, patrolman Bryant with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 31 and 12th Road after he witnessed a vehicle traveling 83 mph in a 60-mph zone. The patrolman then learned that the driver, China Swift, was operating the vehicle on a suspended driver’s license.

Bryant then requested assistance from patrolman Jeff Sharp and Plymouth Police officer John Weir. Weir’s K9 partner, Jax, indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and a search was conducted, turning up marijuana and paraphernalia in the purse of Minequa Toliver. She was arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail for the offense.

Four Suspects Have Yet to Appear in Court on Meth Charges

Four people arrested on an alleged meth-related charges have yet to appear in Marshall Superior Court for their initial hearings.

Jordan Bunton, Kim Frazier, Adam Wagers, and Dianna Watson were arrested on Thursday, March 7 after officers from the Plymouth Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police executed a search warrant at 1008 Plum Street.

Minor Injuries Listed in Marshall County Accident

Two people were injured in a single vehicle accident in Marshall County Thursday morning.

Karis Olson, 28 of Plymouth, was driving eastbound on 14B Road east of State Road 17 when she lost control of her vehicle as she crested a hill. That action caused her to go off the road where the vehicle struck a tree.

Olson and her three-year-old daughter were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and complaints of pain.

The investigation was handled by deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Argos Man Injured After Car Accident

An Argos man was injured in a single vehicle accident on 13th Road west of Olive Trail in Marshall County on Tuesday evening.

The driver, 27-year-old Brandon Hensley, reportedly went off the road at that location and into a tree. Emergency personnel were able to remove Hensley from the vehicle and he was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash and it remains under investigation.

Marshall County Authorities Investigate Unattended Death

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall County Coroner are investigating an unattended death that occurred Thursday in the 5000 block of Michigan Road in Plymouth.

The initial investigation showed that 28-year-old Trisha Hemminger was found dead in her home and was discovered by her husband. An autopsy has been scheduled, but police don’t believe foul play was involved.

Groves Arrested for Stealing Vehicle and Narcotics Possession

Marshall County police arrested a man Saturday after finding drugs in a vehicle the suspect had stolen.

A vehicle being operated by John Groves was stopped by police at the intersection of Michigan Street and Jackson Street after a Marshall County Deputy found Groves had committed several traffic violations. During a search of the vehicle, the officer found narcotics and a loaded handgun. The officer then found that the vehicle was stolen.

Groves was arrested on preliminary felony charges of Criminal Conversion, Auto Theft, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance and Receiving Stolen Property, and a misdemeanor count of Carrying a Handgun without a permit. He is being held in the Marshall County Jail with no bond.

Three Sent to the Hospital in Chain Reaction Crash

A chain reaction accident sent three to a Plymouth hospital for evaluation.

The accident happened Wednesday afternoon on Michigan road south of 3rd Road in Plymouth. George Mosley of Plymouth told an officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department that he was traveling on the road when the sun got into his eyes and didn’t see an ambulance stopped in front of him. He rearended the ambulance, who in turn rearended another vehicle driven by Suzanne Mauro, also of Plymouth. They had been stopped in the roadway waiting on a school bus that was dropping off children.

The driver of the ambulance, Megan Houston, of Walkerton, a passenger in the ambulance and Mauro were transported to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth to be evaluated.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigating Home Burglary

police investigation 2The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is currently looking for information regarding a burglary in the 5000 block of Union Road. The department has reported a burglary took place during the day while the owner was away from home, and police suspect one individual was responsible.

Evidence at the scene suggests one suspect broke into the home and was operating an unknown type of full-size vehicle. The suspect forced entry via a patio door and stole items including a flat-screen RCA TV, jewelry, and two firearms.

Police were notified of the incident at 2:37 p.m. ET on Thursday but have not been able to identify the suspect responsible. As a result, police are looking for help in ascertaining the culprit, and is encouraging anyone with information to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at (574) 936-3187.

Marshall County Stabbing Suspect Still on the Loose

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department continues to actively pursue a suspect in a stabbing incident Friday night.

Brian Tapia of Plymouth is accused of stabbing Aaron Fear in the abdomen after an altercation at a residence in the 19000 block of Lincoln Highway, west of Plymouth, Friday night. Fear was hospitalized in South Bend Memorial Hospital and was expected to fully recover.

Police have been searching for Tapia ever since the incident and need your help in locating him. If you know of the whereabouts of Tapia, call in an anonymous tip to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at (574) 936-3187.

Man Wanted by Marshall County Police for Alleged Stabbing

An altercation in Marshall County led to one man being hospitalized for a knife wound and a suspect on the loose. Marshall County police were called to the Plymouth Hospital Emergency Room at around 7:53 p.m. in response to a male subject with a knife wound to the stomach, and an investigation led police to find the suspect, Brian Tapia, had left the residence before police could arrive.

Several Police Agencies Arrest Three in Plymouth

A joint investigation conducted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Warsaw Drug Task Force resulted in the arrest of three people on methamphetamine.

A search warrant was conducted at 14390 3rd Road just outside LaPaz on Thursday evening by officers from the Undercover Narcotics Investigation Team, Warsaw Drug Task Force, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police troopers. The search resulted in the discovery of items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Marshall County Police Investigate Hit and Run Accident

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department detectives are looking for a suspect in a hit and run accident on Jan. 16.

Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident at North Michigan Road and 7B Road. A person driving a black Jeep Cherokee made a U turn at 7B Road to go south on Michigan Road when the vehicle hit another driven by Stephen Sabo of South Bend. Damage was done to the right rear of the victim’s SUV.

Two Arrested on Auto Theft, Burglary Charges

Two Plymouth residents were arrested Monday on several charges after an alleged auto theft and burglary incident.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called out on a report of two suspicious suspects near a residence on 5D Road and Michigan Road. Police didn’t find anyone there, but during their search, they learned that several vehicles had been broken into and items stolen.

Plymouth Woman Arrested on Drug Charges Following Investigation

The Plymouth Police Department arrested a Plymouth woman after police executed a search warrant at 822 W. Monroe St.

On Sunday morning, officers from the Plymouth Police Department, Indiana State Police and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department went to the residence after complaints were received over the Drug Task Force tip line along with another investigation.

New Equipment Expedites Sex Offender Registry Checks

While some law enforcement agencies are gearing up to purchase new equipment for their vehicles to allow them to update the sex offender registry while on the road, several agencies have reported that they have had that equipment in place for several years.

Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin approached the county council last week with a request to purchase three laptop computers for his department – computers which, Chamberlin said, would be used by detectives and officers while checking on individuals currently registered as sex offenders. The equipment, at a cost of $3000, would be paid for out of the fund into which sex offender fees are paid.

Two Injured after Accident in Marshall County

Two people were injured in a Wednesday evening accident at the intersection of Michigan Road and 4th Road in Marshall County.

An investigation at the accident scene found that Kevin Fleck, Sr. of LaPaz was traveling eastbound on 4th Road and stopped at the intersection. He proceeded through the intersection without seeing a vehicle driven by Brandon Heston, of Plymouth, who was traveling south on Michigan Road. Heston tried to avoid a collision but could not.

It started as a shooting incident in Pulaski County and ended in a SWAT team arrest in Marshall County.

Pulaski County police were called to 6680 N. U.S. 421 at 5:50 p.m. ET Sunday in reference to a call that Billie James “Tinker” Minix, of Knox reportedly shot a gun at an occupied residence. Minix allegedly shot at the residence from an abandoned building and from the driveway. Minix also allegedly fired a few shots at a vehicle occupied by two people during the incident.
