Work Release Escapee Returned To Jail

After two days fleeing from police, 24-year-old Travis Owens was arrested and returned to the custody of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. Owen had walked away from his work release assignment at S & S Precast in Winamac on Tuesday, July 10, just a short time after he had reportedly told a coworker that he “couldn’t handle the time anymore” and he was leaving.

Owens had been working at S & S Precast since June 20 as part of a work release program.

Police Investigating Break-In At Culver Military Academy

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a break-in at Culver Military Academy.

When police arrived in the area of Sycamore Road and 17th Road, which is on the property of Culver Military Academy, it was learned that several buildings were broken into in the late afternoon on July 6 into the early morning hours on Saturday, July 7. Items were taken from those buildings including Echo and Stihl power tools. Several of the buildings were forced open to gain entry and items were damaged inside one of the structures.

Alcohol, Drugs Not Factor In Fatal Marshall County Accident

The toxicology report has been received by the Marshall County coroner in the case of a double fatal accident that occurred June 28.

Coroner Bill Cleavenger said that 16-year-old Vincent Cody Poczik and 16-year-old Hunter Brandt of Plymouth were negative for both alcohol and drugs. Cleavenger said that this eliminates one element of the investigation. It was initially believed that speed was a factor in the accident, although that has not been confirmed.

On the evening of June 28, Poczik was driving his car on 12 B Road, east of Olive Trail, when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail and flipped end over end. Cleavenger said Poczik and Brandt were killed instantly.

The accident remains under investigation with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Grovertown Woman Arrested after Pursuit

A Grovertown woman was arrested Wednesday after backing up into a police car during a pursuit incident in Marshall County.

Marshall County officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on U.S. 30 near Tulip Road and 37-year-old Renee Craig, who was wanted on a parole violation, would not stop. As Craig attempted to turn north onto Tulip Road off of US 30, she slid on gravel and left the roadway and drove over a stop sign. She then reportedly backed up her vehicle and struck a vehicle driven by an undercover officer and owned by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Fatal Accident Investigated by Marshall County Police

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were called to a fatal accident on 12 B Road east of Olive Trail last night.

Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger said 16-year-old Vincent Cody Poczik of Plymouth and his passenger, 16-year-old Hunter Brandt of Plymouth, died of injuries sustained in the single vehicle accident. Poczik’s vehicle left the road, struck a guardrail and flipped end over end.

Both boys were killed instantly.  The accident remains under investigation.

Toxicology results are pending on both youths.

Knox Woman Arrested For Stealing From Parked Cars

A Knox woman was arrested Wednesday on a charge of theft after an investigation by the Plymouth Police Department.

On Tuesday, June 26, an employee from AutoPark called the Plymouth Police Department to report a customer going through employee cars in the parking lot. Police were told that a video was taken of the suspect entering one car and placing something in her pocket.

Annual Fallen Officers Blood Drive Campaign To Be Held June 4

Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin has announced that he will be hosting the annual blood drive campaign to honor fallen officers. Last year, 23 units of blood were collected, benefiting over 69 people.

Chamberlin said this year’s goal is to surpass last year’s collection both locally and nationwide. The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department parking lot at 1400 Pioneer Drive in Plymouth on Monday, June 4 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET. Plymouth Man Injured in Crash

A Plymouth man was injured after a one vehicle accident in Marshall County.

Marshall County police responded to a report of a vehicle rollover on U.S. 31 north of 1st Road. The vehicle left the roadway, going down and striking an embankment and rolling over several times. The vehicle came to rest on its top in the side yard of a residence. The driver, Teofilo Cuatiacuatl, was seat belted in his vehicle and was extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital and later released.

Rape Investigation Leads to Arrest of Plymouth Man

Detectives with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are investigating an alleged rape incident.

On Sunday morning, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a female that had walked to a residence in the area of Rose Road and Mill Pond Trail. She indicated to the homeowner that she had been assaulted and asked them to call the police.

Plymouth Man Killed in Accident in Marshall County

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated a fatal accident late yesterday afternoon.

82-year-old Donald Ferguson, of Plymouth, was killed instantly when his car was struck from behind by a semi-trailer tanker truck on U.S. 30 and Cedar Road in Bourbon. Ferguson was making a right hand turn onto Cedar Road when the accident occurred. Ferguson’s wife was injured in the accident and she was transferred to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

Marshall County Police Investigate Theft

Detectives with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a theft incident from Sunshine Salvage in Plymouth.

Officials from the business told police on Wednesday that some unknown person(s) removed a section of fencing and entered the property. The subject(s) pried open several entry doors and stole loose change, an unknown amount of brass fittings, and an unknown amount of copper wiring.

Culver Resident Loses Truck, Boat and Trailer in Lake Maxinkuckee

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call that a truck was found submerged in Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver.

The investigating officer reports that Cara Lewellen, of Culver, was backing up her boat/trailer into the water on the west shore access of Lake Maxinkuckee. While backing up, she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to become fully submerged in the water. Lewellen escaped from the vehicle before it entered the water and she was not injured. The vehicle and trailer were later retrieved by Marshall County Dive Team members.

A Plymouth man is dead after a police pursuit in Marshall County.

Last night around 8:30 p.m. ET, an officer with the Argos Police Department attempted a traffic stop in the area of Michigan Road, north of Argos, and the driver did not stop. The officer was attempting to pull over the truck after the driver committed a traffic infraction. The officer pursued the truck, driven by Mark Albright, 62, of Plymouth.

Marshall County Police Investigate Second Armed Robbery at LaPaz Business

Marshall County Police are investigating the second armed robbery incident at the Bottle Stop Liquor Store in LaPaz in a month.

On Friday, February 17th, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a robbery at the Bottle Stop Liquor Store in LaPaz. The clerk told police that a male subject walked into the liquor store, brandished a knife and demanded money. The suspect was then chased out of the store by a clerk and left on foot. No money was taken during the incident.

Two Injured in Accident in Marshall County

Plymouth man and his daughter were injured in a two vehicle accident Monday afternoon on U.S. 31 just south of U.S. 6 in Marshall County.

Marshall County Police say 29-year-old Anthony McNeal of Plymouth was attempting to cross U.S. 31 at the intersection of 2C Road and pulled into the path of an oncoming semi. The semi hit the passenger side of the vehicle and it spun off the roadway. McNeal was reportedly unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. His daughter, 6-month-old Reese McNeal was a passenger in the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigating Armed Robbery Incident

An armed robbery incident is being investigated by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Police were called to the Bottle Stop Liquor Store on Michigan Street in Lapaz on Monday night where the employee said a man brandished a knife and demanded cash from the register. The employee was cut on a finger with the suspect’s knife. Police arrived on the scene within one minute, but the suspect had fled the scene and was not immediately found. The man had run out the front door toward the alley. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the cash register.

The identity of a suspect arrested in connection with the robbery at CVS in Knox last night is still being withheld by Knox City Police.

Knox City Police responded to an armed robbery call at CVS at 9:18 p.m. An officer saw a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver stopped, then backed into the police cruiser in an attempt to disable the vehicle. A pursuit began which lead into Marshall County. Both suspects abandoned the vehicle on Upas Road in Marshall County and one suspect was arrested. No further information was released by the Knox City Police Department and the robbery remains under investigation.

Plymouth Man Arrested after Pursuit

Plymouth Police Department officers arrested a man after a pursuit incident Monday evening.

A Plymouth Police officer attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle peeled down an alley along Kenwood Ave. Police said that the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed through Westgate and onto State Road 17. The pursuit ended on Redwood and 9th Streets when the driver bailed out of the car and ran into a field and wooded area.
