Law Enforcement Agencies Begin Operation Pull Over Blitz

 
 

Law enforcement agencies across Indiana are taking part in an Operation Pull Over blitz through the end of the month. Patrol officers will be looking for drunk drivers and seatbelt violators.

Last November 490 alcohol-related crashes occurred in Indiana, resulting in 224 injuries and 13 fatalities. A total of 735 drivers were arrested statewide for driving under the influence, and 9.504 seatbelt citations were issued to drivers and passengers who were not buckled up. Continue reading

One Arrested after Moped Accident in Marshall County

A man was arrested in Marshall County on Sunday after a moped accident.

A deputy from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene at 13th Road near Nataka Trail where they found Dylan D. Craft who was involved in an accident while driving his moped.

The deputy noted that Craft was intoxicated and alcoholic beverage containers were located by the wrecked moped, according to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Craft was transported to the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for his injuries.

Marshall County Man Arrested After Reported Domestic Disturbance

A Marshall County man ended up in jail there Sunday evening after a scuffle with police responding to a report of a stabbing. Officers were called to a residence in the 7000 block of 11A Road around 4:30 p.m. When they arrived they learned nobody had been stabbed but a fight had taken place between the residents. The police report indicates a knife had been used, but no injuries were visible. The officers asked Audie Bolinger to step outside the house. Continue reading

Two Arrested in Separate Domestic Battery Incidents

A man was arrested after allegedly battering a pregnant woman and a child.

On Wednesday night, Marshall County deputies were called to a home in the 13,000 block of State Road 17 where they found that the victim had fled the residence. The suspect, Jason Phillips, had also left the residence prior to the officer’s arrival. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that a young boy was also battered. Police were able to locate Phillips in Rochester and with the help of the Rochester Police Department he was taken into custody on Thursday.

Horse Saddle Theft Reported in Bremen

Marshall County detectives received a report of stolen horse saddles from a stable at a residence north of Bremen on Oct. 13.

The theft occurred during the day in the 800 block of Elm Road on Monday. Officers had a report of suspicious persons at the stable during the time of the theft that led officers to an address in Starke County.

A suspect was located and questioned regarding the theft. Shane Querry was arrested and was booked into the Marshall County Jail on the charge.

A portion of the stolen property was able to be recovered

Burglary Incident under Investigation

 
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary that occurred Friday morning in the 7000 block or Redwood Road.

Police say some unknown person(s) used a small metal tabled to break a window in order to get into the residence. The suspect(s) reportedly stole a 32” television and a mount for the television. No other items were missing, but it appeared the suspect(s) went through drawers in the kitchen and in the bedroom, according to a news release.

Two Arrested after Providing False Information to Police

 
 

Two Plymouth residents were arrested on Saturday morning after allegedly lying to the police after an accident.

A Marshall County sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene on Glenn-Overmyer Drive where he talked to those involved in the accident. Miranda Smith, 19, told police that she didn’t realize that the vehicle in front of her stopped and she ran into the back of the car. Smith told the officer that two women left the other car and got into another car and left the area.

Property Tax Scam Reported in Marshall County

  
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has received phone calls from Culver residents about a property tax scam.

Phone calls are being made to Culver residents where the caller tells the victim that a property tax payment has not been made, a lien has been placed on the property and officers are on the way with an arrest warrant. Some calls are made with a human caller and others are automated.

North Liberty Woman Dies in Accident

 
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an accident that resulted in a fatality Wednesday night.

According to police, Melissa Newcomb, 29 of North Liberty, was southbound on Tamarack Road and approached 4B Road when she entered the intersection without stopping. Her vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete pillar.

The Polk Township Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle and was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth where she later died.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigate Home Improvement Fraud

A person of interest is being sought in an incident of home improvement fraud.

Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies say a local resident was contacted about having a driveway sealed. The person of interest would not provide any type of estimate for the work other than a price per gallon. The resident was led to believe that only a few gallons would be used, according to a news release.

The person of interest completed the work, but allegedly overcharged the resident.

Two Arrested after Traffic Stop

 
 

Two people were arrested after a traffic stop in Marshall County on Wednesday.

A Marshall County patrolman stopped a vehicle in a business parking lot on Kingston Road. The officer found that Jason Joseph had an active felony warrant and was in possession of methamphetamine, pseudoephedrine and a schedule II controlled substance, according to a news release.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigating Accident

 
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an accident that reportedly involved a school bus at the intersection of State Road 17 and State Road 8.

The call came into the 911 dispatch center at 4 p.m. ET. Officials told WKVI News that the initial report included minor injuries and emergency personnel were called to the scene.

This accident remains under investigation and we will have additional information as it becomes available.

High-Speed Pursuit Still Under Investigation

 
 

The investigation into Wednesday’s high-speed pursuit through Grovertown and into Marshall County is continuing. A Starke County Sheriff’s Deputy initially tried to stop a car driven by Paul Coffin on U.S. 30 at 1200 East. Coffin drove for another mile before pulling over, according to information released by the Starke County Sheriff’s Department. As the deputy was getting out of his car, Coffin reportedly backed into it, causing the patrol car to strike the deputy. Continue reading

Woman Airlifted after Two Vehicle Accident

 
 

A Rochester woman was injured in a two vehicle accident Tuesday night.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, a teenaged Plymouth resident was traveling north on Michigan Road north of 15th Road and turning left into a driveway behind another vehicle. Judy Pritchett, 50, of Rochester was traveling south on Michigan Road and was struck in the driver’s side by the teenager’s vehicle.

Marshall County Police Looking for Police Impersonator

 
 

Marshall County police are investigating a recent report of a police impersonator in the area.

The victim told police that he was pulled over for erratic driving after he swerved to miss a dog in the roadway. The vehicle the impersonator was driving was a tan Ford Taurus with an older style full light bar on top which displayed flashing red and blue lights. There were no grill lights, spotlights or decals on the vehicle.

The impersonator was described as a Caucasian male, 5’11”-6’ in height, muscular build with short blonde hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a uniform with brown pants with a dark stripe down the side, but there were no patches, badges or other law enforcement identification on the uniform.

One Arrested after Leaving the Scene of an Accident

A man was arrested in Marshall County Thursday night after leaving the scene of an accident.

Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at U.S. 30 and King Road where a two-vehicle accident occurred. The driver of the car who reportedly caused the accident fled the scene.

Officers found the suspect’s vehicle traveling on the new U.S. 31 highway and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect didn’t not stop and a pursuit began. The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of U.S. 6 and the driver, John Vogt, was arrested without incident.

Ten Year Prison Sentence Handed to Donaldson Man

A Donaldson man will spend several years in prison after pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state to a charge of possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon.

According to a press release from Prosecutor David Holmes, Charlie Carlisle, Sr. admitted in Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 on Wednesday that he was in possession of a stolen handgun and sold it to another person after he was previously convicted of burglary as a Class B felony.
