The Medaryville Town Council will meet in special session tonight to pass and sign resolutions for their wastewater system improvement project. They are looking to build a biodome structure into their current lagoons to meet Indiana Department of Environmental Management standards. Town Council President Derrick Stalbaum tells WKVI news the project will cost around $800,000. The town is applying for a $450,000 grant and hopes to fund the remaining $400,000 by selling bonds. The Town of Medaryville is a few steps closer to applying for a grant to offset the cost of a major project. They are looking to build a biodome structure into their current lagoons to meet Indiana Department of Environmental Management standards. Town Council President Derrick Stalbaum tells WKVI news the project will cost around $800,000. The town is applying for a $450,000 grant and hopes to fund the remaining $400,000 by selling bonds. As part of the grant process, an outside agency is completing an income survey of Medaryville residents. Stalbaum says they have already been contacting residents and asking the following questions:
- How many members are in your household?
- Do you have a total income of $38,000 or less?
Stalbaum stresses this information is necessary, as the town is applying for a need-based grant and needs to prove it qualifies. He encourages all Medaryville residents to cooperate and answer the questions honestly. Stalbaum adds door-to-door surveys will be conducted in a few weeks. Continue reading
Medaryville Clerk-Treasurer Swears in New Council Member

The Town of Medaryville has a new council member. Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood swore Corrie Hauptli in this morning. She was appointed by the Pulaski County Democratic Party Chairman to replace longtime council president Gene Payne, who recently stepped down. Derrick Stalbaum was recently elected president and was present at the swearing-in ceremony. Carolyn Hagar will serve as vice-president. The appointment was made in accordance with state law. All three Medaryville council seats are up for reelection in 2015.
Medaryville Town Council President Steps Down

The Medaryville Town Council accepted the resignation of President Carrie Hauptli during their meeting last week.
Hauptli will be leaving her seat on the council at the end of the month. Derrick Stalbaum was elected to take her place. The new vice president is Carolyn Hager. Hauptli is leaving the post due to personal reasons.

Medaryville Town Council Approves Ordinance for Compensation during Emergency Declarations

The Medaryville Town Council approved an ordinance that would provide a town employee with the option of earning compensation time to make up for each day lost as a result of the closing of the Medaryville Town Hall due to inclement weather.
A state of emergency declared by The State of Indiana, the Pulaski County Commissioners and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department caused the town hall to close and forced town hall employees to choose between the loss of a pay day or utilizing their time off.
The town council wants to provide those employees with the option of earning time off with pay in lieu of overtime pay, known as compensation time, to accommodate the employee for having been forced to choose between the loss of a pay day or utilizing paid time. The employee would knowingly and voluntarily agreeing to accept compensation time in lieu of overtime pay.
According to the ordinance, an hourly employee may be given time off for time worked beyond the employee’s regular work schedule if the extra time off or compensation time is specifically requested and authorized by a supervisor and was created as a result of the emergency declaration.
This time policy will be effective as of Feb. 1, 2014.
In a related matter, the Medaryville Town Council approved an action to put $3,000 into the overtime pay for the Maintenance Supervisor as that item in the budget was depleted before April. The overtime was used for snow removal.
Town of Medaryville to Move Forward with Wastewater Upgrades
No person from the public spoke about the project so the Medaryville Town Council will move forward with the project. The council will be working with the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission to submit a Community Development Block Grant worth $450,000. The town is also expected to expend an estimated $400,000 in non-CDBG funds on the project. These funds will come from the town of Medaryville and a bond issue.
The council also went ahead and hired McMann for design work and University Research Consortium to conduct an income survey.

The town of Medaryville is a step closer to having a Dollar General store after a proposed zoning change to accommodate the 9,100 square foot facility received the blessing of the Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission. Town Council President Gene Payne says the proposal will now go to the county commissioners for final approval.

Public Hearing Tonight Regarding Proposed Dollar General in Medaryville
According to the notice of public hearing, the proposed development involves construction of a 9,100 square foot Dollar General building as a single-story mercantile structure. Because it would be a commercial business, and the proposed location is in a residential area, the company must first receive the approval by the Advisory Plan Commission to rezone the area before they can proceed.
Public Hearing Scheduled for Rezoning to Allow Dollar General in Medaryville

A public hearing is scheduled to be held this month regarding a rezoning application in Medaryville to allow a Dollar General to be built in what is currently a residential area. The hearing will take place before the Advisory Plan Commission at the Pulaski County Courthouse, located at 112 E. Main St. in Winamac.
Foster Builders, Inc. have applied for the rezoning ordinance to allow 103 W. West St. in Medaryville to be made a commercial property to allow a 9,100 square foot Dollar General building, single-story, to be built. The application and all submitted documentation are available for review Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Winamac Building located at 125 S. Riverside Drive, Suite 150, in Winamac.
