Plea Agreements In Murriah Dailey Attempted Murder and Robert Reed Robbery Case Move Forward In Starke Circuit Court

Plea agreements have been filed in open court for Murriah Dailey and Robert Reed. Dailey was previously charged with two counts of Attempted Murder as a Class A felony, Attempted Escape, Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property, two counts of Resisting Law Enforcement, and Striking A Law Enforcement Animal. Reed faced charges of Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property, two counts of Resisting Law Enforcement, and one count of Habitual Traffic Violator. Murriah Dailey appeared in front of Starke Circuit Court Magistrate Jeanene Calabrese on March 26th 2012 and the plea agreement was found to be acceptable.

Robert Reed Initial Hearing Held in Starke Circuit Court

Robert Reed, of LaPorte, was in Starke Circuit Court last week where he pleaded not guilty to charges of Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property, and Resisting Law Enforcement as a Class D Felony and a Class A Misdemeanor charge.

The charges stem from an incident on May 22nd, 2011, when Robert Reed and Murriah Dailey allegedly stole items from Marvin Miller’s home. Police were alerted to the incident and they were found riding a motorcycle on State Road 10. An officer from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department attempted a traffic stop on County Road 750 West, they stopped and then took off and a pursuit began. The pursuit ended just past County Road 400 South. The motorcycle ran into soft dirt in a corn field and the pair fled from the motorcycle. A K9 unit was deployed and stopped Murriah Dailey, and Reed was detained by the K9 but later fled on foot. Dailey was in custody in the back of a North Judson Police car and she attempted to drive away in the car. The car was shot at and disabled and she was tased to gain compliance. She was taken to the Starke County Jail after she was medically cleared from IU Health Starke Hospital.

Suspect in Pursuit Incident in San Pierre Arrested in LaPorte County

LaPorte City Police Department officers arrested Robert Reed, 33, of LaPorte, after a police pursuit.  Reed is also suspected of being involved in a theft and pursuit incident in San Pierre on May 22nd.

According to Detective Andy Hynek of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Reed was spotted in the LaPorte City limits on Friday, May 27th in a suspected stolen vehicle from Starke County. LaPorte City officers initiated a traffic stop and Reed would not pull over. A pursuit began and he was eventually taken into custody. He was arrested on charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Habitual Traffic Violator. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department has also filed charges on Reed which include four counts of Theft and one count of Burglary. The LaPorte County charges stem from a two month investigation in which Reed was allegedly involved in the act of stealing trailers, vehicles, RVs and tools.

Three Offenders Appear in Starke Circuit Court for Initial Hearings

Murriah Dailey made an appearance in Starke Circuit Court Wednesday, but her case has been continued until Friday at 9:00 a.m. due to some issues with the police report. The officer has not yet signed the report, so the prosecuting attorney has been unable to file charges at this time. An affidavit for probable cause has been filed for two counts of Attempted Murder, as well as counts of Motor Vehicle Theft, Battery on a Police Officer, and Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle. More charges are expected to be filed by state police after their investigation is completed.
