Three people were taken to the hospital after a suspect allegedly led police on a foot chase through a LaPorte bakery. Police say it began just before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, with a traffic stop in the 800 block of Boyd Boulevard, according to a City of LaPorte press release.

The death of a LaPorte County Jail inmate is under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office says Joel L. Ohms, 45, was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday. Jail staff reportedly began resuscitation efforts, and LaPorte County EMS took him to Northwest Health – LaPorte. He was pronounced dead just before 7:30 a.m.

Northwest Health has a new chief executive officer. Ashley Dickinson has served as CEO of Northwest Health’s Starke and LaPorte hospitals since 2017. Starting Monday, she’ll be CEO of the full Northwest Health system, according to a hospital press release.

Drivers are asked to avoid parts of Downtown LaPorte tomorrow, as Northwest Health – LaPorte hospital moves to its new location. INDOT says the right westbound lane of State Road 2 will be closed from Madison to Teegarden streets starting at 5:00 a.m. The hospital will be transferring its patients to the new facility.
