Christmas Celebrations Planned in North Judson, Knox

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Starke County, with several holiday happenings scheduled this weekend. Festivities get underway tonight  in North Judson with the lighting of the town’s Christmas Tree at Norwayne Field. Santa will be on hand for the 6 p.m. community celebration. Children can visit with him at the top of the hill by the fireplace, and cookies and cocoa will also be served. Continue reading

A local physician and his wife are spearheading efforts to restore a once-proud piece of North Judson’s history to its former glory. Dennis and Margaret Dalphond’s beautification efforts at Pioneer Cemetery on Talmer Avenue behind Norwayne Field are actually a continuation of the family legacy. Norwayne Field was a WPA project during the Great Depression, and Margaret’s grandfather, Joseph Pacilio, Sr., helped to build it. Continue reading

Norwayne Field Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday

  
 
The trees at Norwayne Field are undergoing some decorating by community members in a holiday tradition that brings the spirit of Christmas to the North Judson community and serves to commemorate those who have been lost.

Last year, Park board member Kay Reimbold said roughly 30 people decorated trees. The trees that were not decorated by members of the community are strung with lights by the park board, giving each tree the look and feel of the holidays.

Norwayne Field Tree Decorating Event Approaching; Re-Register Now

 It’s nearing that time again; the trees at Norwayne Field will soon be decorated for Christmas, and a deadline of Nov. 8 has been set for those who decorated a tree last year and would like to decorate the same tree again this holiday season. Park board member Kay Reimbold told WKVI that this holiday tradition brings the spirit of Christmas to the North Judson community and serves to commemorate those who have been lost.

“What we’ve done for these last probably eight years or so is someone picks a tree at Norwayne Field and they decorate it whatever way they choose to. Most of them are all done in memory of a family member or a friend that has passed away, but they get to pick any style they want. The only thing we require is that they use the outside lights on the tree and they attach things securely so that the wind or the weather doesn’t blow them off,” Reimbold said.

Harry L. Keller Post to Provide Honor Guard for Ceremony at Frank Ono Park

The Harry L. Keller American Legion Post 92 is honored to have been asked to provide an Honor Guard for the Westville Community at the Frank Ono Park Saturday.

Ono posthumously received the Medal of Honor 10 years ago. Then-Lt. Governor Joseph Kernan presided over the services at Norwayne Field in North Judson.

Ono, a North Judson High School graduate, received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic action on Hill 140 in Italy on July 4th, 1944.

The Harry L. Keller American Legion Post 92 will fire a 21 gun salute and blow taps.

Other services conducted by the Harry L. Keller Post will be:
Sunday: 11:30 a.m. CT at Round Lake Cemetery
Monday: 8:45 a.m. CT Parade; 9:00 a.m. at Pioneer Cemetery; 10:00 a.m. at San Pierre Cemetery; 11:00 a.m. Wreath deposit on the Kankakee River on Highway 421. A ceremony at the Vel Mar Park in LaCrosse will follow.
