Starke County Community Foundation Highlights Gift Matching Opportunities

Those planning to donate to one of the Starke County Community Foundation’s community funds have the chance to make their money go even further. The Lilly Endowment has announced a “2-for-1 dollar matching opportunity” for gifts to community funds, according to a Community Foundation press release. On top of that, the Starke County Community Foundation will match community fund donations dollar-for-dollar during its annual open house on Giving Tuesday, November 27.

This Volunteer Training Course Will Help You be Prepared If a Disaster Strikes

If you’re interested in preparing yourself to provide assistance in the event of an emergency, you should consider attending the free Red Cross volunteer training session scheduled for Sunday, September 23rd.

This training course is being held in conjunction with the Starke County COAD’s efforts to form a local Disaster Action Team. The course will be held at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. Prospective volunteers should show up around noon CST. Continue reading

Blood Drive Scheduled in Honor of WKVI’s Tom Berg

Tom BergCelebrate life and make a difference this Election Day by giving blood. The American Red Cross is hosting a drive tomorrow at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on South Heaton Street in Knox in honor of WKVI morning show host Tom Berg. He was diagnosed last summer with Stage 4 cancer and is on medical leave during his treatment. Tom used to be a faithful blood donor but is no longer able to give due to his medical condition. Free Thanksgiving Meal at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church

 If you don’t have someone to share Thanksgiving with this year, the members at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox invite you to the church to share in a traditional Thanksgiving feast.

The dinner is free and will feature the traditional favorites: turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy, and more – even dessert! The meal will be served on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Family Life Center, 1600 S. Heaton St. in Knox.

This is an annual event and all are welcome.

DeMotte State Bank Relay for Life Pageant Draws 33 Contestants

 
 

Sunday’s inaugural Relay for Life Pageant, sponsored by DeMotte State Bank, drew an astounding 33 contestants, ranging in age from 1 to 18.

Coordinator Candice Miller hopes to raise $1,500 for cancer research through a combination of entry fees, ticket and concession sales and other donations. Miller says many of the contestants are taking part because proceeds benefit cancer research. That’s also why the DeMotte State Bank is fielding a team. Miller is a cancer survivor, and says many members of the bank’s close-knit staff have been touched by the disease.

Pastor Tim Miller is going to be the guest today on “Ted Hayes Remembers”. Pastor Miller will be leaving Our Redeemer Lutheran Church after a quarter century in the pulpit.

Our Redeemer was known at one time for the number of Junior and Senior High School students. But in recent years there’s been a drop in those numbers.

‘Ted Hayes Remembers’ Program to Feature Pastor Tim Miller

Recently we announced that Pastor Tim Miller of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox will be relocating in April to the Clear Lake Lutheran Church in Fremont, Indiana. Pastor Miller has served Our Redeemer, and its congregation, for 25 years which is longer than any other recent mainline pastor.

In an interview with Ted Hayes this week, it was noted that Pastor Miller will be missed when the festival season gears up this summer. That’s because under his guidance, Our Redeemer received its share of award winning float entries over the years.

Pastor Tim Miller to Leave Our Redeemer Lutheran Church

The Pastor at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox will be moving after being in the pulpit for 24 years. He is going to be the Pastor at the Clear Lake Lutheran Church in Freemont, Indiana and will be moving to the area in the next two months.

Pastor Miller followed Pastor Joseph Townsend and is only the fourth Pastor to minister at the church.

We’ll be interviewing Pastor Miller next week, giving him an opportunity to talk about the highlights of his pastorate in Knox.
