Continue readingFirefighters Battle Structure Fire at Koontz Lake
Firefighters from several fire departments battled a structure fire in the Koontz Lake area Tuesday morning.
Koontz Lake Fire Chief Andy Lawrence said they were called to a residence in the 900 E. block of 700 N. just after 10 a.m. CT. Due to a lack of manpower, firefighters from several departments were dispatched to the scene to assist with the single-wide modular home fire.
Lawrence said nobody was home at the time of the fire. One firefighter suffered an injury and was evaluated by Starke County EMS, but refused transport.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to help determine the cause and origin of the fire.
The Koontz Lake Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department, Knox-Center Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Walkerton Fire Department, Polk Township Fire Department, North Liberty Fire Department, and Starke County EMS.

An ATV rider was arrested and his passenger was injured, after a crash near Koontz Lake Thursday night. Shortly after 11:00 p.m., emergency responders were called to the 20,000 block of 4B Road.
Driver Hospitalized After Single-Vehicle Crash
Authorities in Marshall County say alcohol may have been a factor in a single-vehicle injury crash in Walkerton. It happened shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday on 1st Road east of Tamarack Road, according to officials with the Marshall County Police Department. Continue reading
North Liberty Woman Dies in Accident
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an accident that resulted in a fatality Wednesday night.
According to police, Melissa Newcomb, 29 of North Liberty, was southbound on Tamarack Road and approached 4B Road when she entered the intersection without stopping. Her vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete pillar.
The Polk Township Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle and was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth where she later died.
