Starke Election Board Member Says Poll Workers Threatening to Quit over Lack of Meals

Meal changes could lead to a shortage in poll workers, warns Starke County Election Board Member Harrison Fields. “I’ve been talking to some of these poll workers,” he told the rest of the election board Wednesday. “We’re going to be faced with a major problem come next spring because every one of these poll workers that worked in the past told me personally they refuse to work because the council changed the meal situation. None of these poll workers that worked in the past – not one – told me they will work in the spring because of that issue.”

ACLU Gives Poll Workers Tips for Interacting with Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Voters

As Election Day approaches, the American Civil Liberties Union is taking steps to make sure transgender and gender non-conforming voters are treated with respect.

Poll Worker’s Needlepoint Hobby Leads to Debate during Starke County Election Board Meeting

A poll worker’s needlepoint hobby led to a lengthy debate among Starke County Election Board members Wednesday. Board President Harrison Fields said he’s gotten complaints about a poll worker who’s apparently been doing needlepoint while waiting for potential voters, during in-person absentee voting hours. “I’ve had two phone calls on it, and me personally, I don’t like the looks of it, personally,” he said. “I don’t like the looks of it.”

Starke County Election Board Accepts Resignation, Discusses Issues at the Polls

 
 

The Starke County Election Board met Tuesday morning to discuss some issues that arose during the Primary Election.

Pat Mitchell, who has been a member of the Starke County Election Board for many years, tendered his resignation. He cited declining health as his reason for resigning, but noted that he’s enjoyed serving the county in this capacity for many years.
