The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is giving Hoosiers a reason to get outdoors this weekend. Today and tomorrow are Free Fishing Days. That means Indiana residents don’t need a fishing license or trout stamp to fish public waters.
Stolen Snowmobiles Recovered
Two stolen law enforcement snowmobiles were recovered thanks to an anonymous tip on Friday, Jan. 5.
Indiana Conservation Officers say an arrest was made and several more are pending. The incident remains under investigation.
Indiana Conservation Officers Seek Public Assistance in Retrieving Stolen Snowmobiles, Offer $1,000 Reward
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources just a press release today, seeking public assistance in finding two stolen Law Enforcement Snowmobiles that were taken from Potato Creek State Park near the town of North Liberty.
The snowmobiles were stolen on or around December 15, 2017. Indiana Conservation Officers are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and/or the recovery of the snowmobiles. Continue reading

Bald Eagles Hatch at Potato Creek State Park
A pair of bald eagles have produced offspring at Potato Creek State Park. The birds hatched three eaglets in a remote area, according to park officials. They say this is the fourth straight spring a bald eagle pair has nested at the park and the first time they have produced offspring. Park officials suspect they are the same pair that has nested unsuccessfully but can’t confirm it. They were ousted by osprey in 2012 and 2013. Last year they built a nest but did not hatch any eggs. State Parks Host Successful Deer Reduction Hunts
Deer hunters harvested a total of 1,004 deer during controlled hunts at 18 state parks and one state natural area in November and December of 2014, according to Mike Mycroft, chief of natural resources for the DNR Division of State Parks. Tippecanoe River and Potato Creek State Parks were among the facilities where hunts were conducted to thin the herd. Final totals released by the DNR indicate hunters took 123 deer at TRSP and 136 at Potato Creek. Continue reading
Knox Schools Awarded Field Trip Grant
Knox third grade students will get to go to Potato Creek State Park thanks to the Discovering the Outdoors Field Trip grant.
The grant program is administered through the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation and allows students to participate in field trips to parks and reservoirs to engage them in learning about Indiana’s fish, forest, wildlife, natural habitats and conservation. The grant money helps with transportation costs, program fees and classroom supplies for the field trips to local state parks. Indiana has 24 state parks and eight reservoirs eligible for field trip funding.
