Starke County Community Foundation Impact Grant Utilized to Help Save Lives

A recent impact grant awarded by the Starke County Community Foundation is helping local emergency personnel save lives.

Starke County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) used the $14,350 they received from the SCCF to purchase a LUCAS CPR Device, and paid for one year of maintenance for the medical apparatus. The technology performs non-stop CPR, freeing the EMS responder to treat and transport the patient to the emergency room. Continue reading

Proceeds From Psi Iota Xi Rummage Sale to Fund Scholarships

 
 

The Psi Iota Xi Sorority will be holding a Rummage Sale this Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. CST at the Knox United Methodist Church. The proceeds from this sale will be used to fund preschool and college scholarships for Starke County residents. Psi Iota Xi contributed over $3,000 to Starke County scholarships this year and are looking to increase that number. The Sorority is constantly looking for ways to give funds throughout our are with events like their Rummage Sale. Donations are made to worthy causes by Psi Iota Xi on a monthly basis. Psi Iota Xi College Scholarship Deadline Approaching

 
 

The Knox Chapter of the Psi Iota Xi sorority has announced that they will soon be awarding scholarships to deserving Starke County seniors. Previous recipients may also reapply; the application is simple, and only asks for a brief written paragraph.

With the upcoming deadline of April 4, the sorority is urging all seniors to not miss the opportunity for free money. Tammy Fletcher, president of the sorority’s Knox chapter, said her sorority has been active in the community for more than 27 years, staying busy all year round.

Monday is Young Artists’ Conference Registration Deadline

 
 
Monday marks the deadline for registrants of this year’s Starke County Young Artists’ Conference, after the Knox chapter of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority announced they would be extending the deadline from Friday.

Chapter President Tammy Fletcher said this event is a great opportunity for children to learn more about possible careers or opportunities in life. It was previously an event hosted by teachers of area schools, but it eventually came to a halt. Fletcher, however, said it was too great of a program to let it end.

Winter Wonderful Proceeds to Benefit Local Scholarship Funds

 
 

Get an early start on your holiday shopping Saturday at the annual Psi Iota Xi Winter Wonderful Craft and Vendor Show. The free event will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Washington Township Community Building east of Knox on State Road 23. Tammy Fletcher encourages attendees to bring their appetites. Breakfast and lunch will both be served, and the famous Psi Iota Xi cheese balls will be available for purchase after an eight-year absence. In addition to the food, there will also be plenty of opportunities to purchase unique gifts from commercial vendors and crafters. “Celebrating the Arts” Event Planned For April 6 in Winamac

  
 

Winamac’s chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Iota Xi, will once again be “Celebrating the Arts” in the Winamac community on April 6. The event, which will be held at the Church of the Heartland at 890 E. Highway 14, will take place 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. ET with free admission, but the sorority is welcoming a suggesting $1 donation, the proceeds of which will support the event.

Starke County Community Foundation Awards Grants

The Starke County Community Foundation made the holiday bright for many community organizations during its 2010 Grant Award Banquet. Over $24,000 was awarded on Monday, December 6th at the Community Center in Knox.

The grants are part of the Community Foundation’s Unrestricted Funds which allow the Community Foundation to assess the greatest needs of the community and assist the individual agency programs. Since 1998, the Community Foundation has awarded over $1.7 million to local organizations and projects that make a difference in Starke County.
