Auction Date Set for Sale of County Home Contents
An auction date has been set for the contents of the Pleasant View Rest Home in Winamac. The county home was recently closed due to the Pulaski County Council’s decision to no longer fund the operations at the facility.
Pulaski County Commissioner Terry Young announced Monday night that the auction is Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. ET at the facility located on 60 S. in Winamac. Several items will be featured including chairs, beds, mattresses, kitchen items and antiques. Jeremiah Kopka from Kopka Auctions is conducting the sale.
Town of Monterey Requests Additional Loan Money
More money will be loaned to the Town of Monterey for help in upgrading their wastewater system.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer and Monterey Town Council President Jim Fleury appeared before the Pulaski County Council Monday night. They requested an additional $15,000 to their original loan request of $20,000. When the town began assembling information for a 2013 grant to help with the cost of wastewater treatment plant improvements, the engineers used numbers relevant to 2013. Origer says the estimates have gone up since then.
Income Surveys Needed for Pulaski County Planning Grant
More income surveys are needed to help Pulaski County obtain a planning grant for a new EMS building.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer told the county commissioners this week that 500 surveys are needed, and only 100 have been returned.
Town of Monterey Requests Loan from Pulaski County Council
A loan was approved by the Pulaski County Council to help the Town of Monterey with a wastewater system upgrade.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission (CDC) Executive Director Nathan Origer and Monterey Town Council President Jim Fleury were before the county council members on Monday night to request a $20,000 loan for matching grant funds for the project.
The money would be advertised as an additional appropriation from the CDC fund to make a loan available to the town. The money will be only be spent if the town’s grant request is approved.
Loan Request Headed to Pulaski County Council
The Town of Monterey may take out a larger loan from Pulaski County.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer explained that the county agreed to loan the Town of Monterey $10,000 in order to provide matching funds for the proposed wastewater treatment facility project in Monterey. This was approved by Pulaski County government entities last year.

Pulaski County Council Moves Forward with Matching Grant Fund Request
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer requested grant match funds as an additional appropriation at this week’s Pulaski County Council meeting.
Origer said the county is the recipient of two grants. The Hometown Collaboration Initiative grant will help small communities, like Pulaski County, to expand jobs based on existing economic assets and improve attractiveness and quality of life.
Pulaski County Commissioners Discuss Revolving Loan Fund Request
The Pulaski County Commissioners discussed the last Revolving Loan Fund request until Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer revamps the process.
Origer was before the commissioners last night with Sheila Jimenez, who requested a $10,000 loan for fixtures in order to open a new restaurant on Main Street in Winamac. Jimenez said the Warrior Den will be a finer family dining facility at 121 W. Main Street. She hopes to open in May.
Grant Will Help Students with Industrial Maintenance Skills
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer told the county commissioners last night that the county is the recipient of an $82,355 Region 1 Works Council for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) innovative-curriculum grant.
Origer said the grant will fund a Pulaski County Repair and Maintenance Technology (RAM-Tech) program at West Central High School to give students the skills they need to be successful in an industrial setting.
Pulaski County CDC Director to Meet with Legislators about CAGIT Issue
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer will meet with Senator Ed Charbonneau and State Representative Doug Gutwein next week to talk about the CAGIT tax issue.
Origer will talk with the legislators about changing legislature to require that the special CAGIT tax be used to pay the jail lease instead of that money coming from the CEDIT fund as legislation currently reads. Origer argues that the CEDIT fund should be used for economic development projects and not for the jail lease.

Pulaski County CDC Director Discusses Initiation of Redevelopment Commission
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer brought forth the idea of a redevelopment commission to the county commissioners during their recent meeting.
Origer explained that there are opportunities the county could be missing out on without a redevelopment commission.
“It allows basically two important things that we cannot do right now,” said Origer. “If ever a town or the county wanted to buy real estate for a downtown revitalization effort because they have absentee owners who are not making buildings usable for potential tenants, the RDC could much more easily purchase that and put any work into it as necessary. They can sell it or lease it to tenants than a municipal entity on its own could. The other thing is setting up TIF Districts.”
Pulaski County CDC Director Gives CAGIT Tax Update to Commissioners
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer gave the commissioners an update on his discussions surrounding the changes in the CAGIT tax with the local legislators.
Origer had approached the commissioners at their earlier November meeting for support in overturning legislation to free up money for the CEDIT fund for economic development. He believes that the special CAGIT tax should be used to help pay the jail lease instead of the CEDIT fund. Origer argued that the CEDIT fund should be used for economic development projects and not just the jail lease. To do this, Origer needs to approach local legislators to change legislation allowing language to change the law to reflect his request.
Pulaski County CDC Director Gives Economic Update
The Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director gave the commissioners some food for thought in their meeting this week.
Nathan Origer said the third and final site study has been done on a west side rail industrial development. Preliminary work will be sought to make sure the landowners are on board to move forward with efforts for economic development.
Origer presented a contract for a company to overhaul the county’s zoning ordinances.
