A former Knox Community School Corporation administrator is being wooed by a suburban Indianapolis school district. “The Indianapolis Star” reports Hamilton Southeastern Schools officials will recommend Dr. Allen Bourff for the superintendent job there when they meet on Dec. 2. Bourff’s career started at Knox High School as an English teacher in 1978. Continue reading
The North Judson-San Pierre School Board approved the final reading of the wellness policy on Tuesday evening. It incorporates federal guidelines into the school’s cafeteria food, vending machines and physical activity practices. Superintendent Lynn Johnson says physical activity is an important part of the school day.
The North Judson and San Pierre fire departments donated $100 each to the N.J.-S.P. Middle School Student Council for their community service project. Students raise money throughout the year to help families in the community in need of assistance. Continue reading
A bomb threat was reported at the Culver Community School Corporation today, according to School Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire. A note was left inside a restroom stall at the middle and high school building. Continue reading
The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation is the second in Starke County to adopt the balanced calendar concept. The school board unanimously approved the plan last night. Superintendent Lynn Johnson says until state test dates are released a set calendar cannot be made. She says they are usually released in January or early February. Continue reading
Culver Community High School students will have an opportunity to prepare for college thanks to the generosity of the Culver Redevelopment Commission. They gave the school corporation $50,000 to cover the cost of equipment for participation in Purdue’s Project Lead the Way curriculum. Continue reading
Members of the Oregon-Davis Future Farmers of America chapter are heading to state next month. All eight students who took part in the Area X Crops Judging/Forestry/Entomology CDE at at Plymouth High School on Monday qualified to advance to the state-level competition at Purdue on Saturday, Dec. 13. The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is the first in the area to adopt the balanced calendar concept. The school board voted 5-to-1 in favor of the plan, with board member Lee Nagai casting the lone no vote. Continue reading
The Culver Community School Corporation received balanced calendar survey responses from families, students and faculty members this week. A total of 780 responses were recieved with 75 percent of the surveys saying yes, they would like to see a balanced calendar implemented.
The Knox Middle School Building Corporation Committee, at a public hearing last night, reviewed, approved, and sent to the School Board, a number of resolutions to move along the construction and renovation of a portion of the elementary building. No citizens attended the hearing.
Later at the School Board meeting, a public hearing was held on details of the project. Again, no member of the public appeared to comment. Continue reading
The John Glenn High School Spell Bowl team won their 19th Indiana Academic Spell Bowl state finals championship this past weekend. They now hold the record for number of spell bowl state championships in the history of all divisions. Spell Bowl Coach Brandt Ayoub says the team was part of division 2 and competed against 4 other schools. He says it was a team goal from the beginning to make it to state.
Members of the Knox Elementary School’s “Tech Tribe” were in the “Spotlight” portion of the agenda at Monday’s Knox School Board meeting. The students, under the direction of Laura Barnes, who meet in weekly after school sessions, displayed their work in video production, showed board members and the Superintendent one of 13 that they have produced. The Knox and Oregon-Davis School Boards could vote tonight to adopt a balanced school calendar for the 2015-2016 school year, and the North Judson-San Pierre School Board will consider one when they meet tomorrow. A balanced calendar still features the state-mandated 180 classroom days. The school year starts earlier in August and includes longer breaks in the fall and spring. They can be used for either remediation for students who are struggling or enrichment for higher-achieving pupils. Continue reading
The Culver School board will be discussing the balanced calendar survey results from students’ families tonight. On Nov. 3rd a public hearing was held with Rochester Community School Corporation representatives to discuss the pros and cons of being on a balanced calendar. Continue reading
The Culver Community Middle School will be holding a lock-in this month to raise money for the 8th grader’s end of the year field trip to Kings Island. Both 7th and 8th grade students from the middle school will be able to participate in the evening’s activities. Continue reading
Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School students hosted 38 local veterans on Tuesday for breakfast a brief program to acknowledge their service to the nation. Principal Tim Pletcher says the 9th grade bio/ag class prepared breakfast, and the 10th grade English U.S. History class researched various wars. Their group projects were compiled to create a single presentation for the veterans.

The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation has been selected by Purdue University to take part I a new program. The Center for Instructional Excellence is designed to better prepare prospective college students in high school for the next level of education. Continue reading
