Fire Destroys Star City Home
A late Wednesday night fire destroyed a home in Star City.
According to Fire Chief Mark Fox, Star City firefighters were called to the home of Dennis and Lisa Day at 6874 S. 150 E. in Star City on a report of an attic fire. Star City firefighters were joined by Winamac, Buffalo Township, Royal Center and Kewanna fire departments to help extinguish the fire. Crews were on the scene for three-and-a-half hours.
Fox said the fire was caused by an electrical issue. Both occupants were home at the time of the fire and smoke alarms alerted them to the danger of fire so they were able to exit the home safely.
No injuries were reported.
Star City Fire Department Called to Car Fire
Firefighters from the Star City Fire Department were called out to a fire at 4882 W. 550 S. in the town of Pulaski Tuesday afternoon.
Star City Fire Chief Mark Fox said seven or eight cars caught fire and it is undetermined how the fires started. Fox does not know if he will continue with an investigation at this time.
The Winamac Fire Department assisted at the scene along with the Buffalo Township Fire Department. Firefighters were on the scene for two-and-a-half hours. No injuries were reported.
Arson Suspected in Apartment Fire in Winamac
The Winamac Fire Department was called to two fires Monday.
Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver said that firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 303 N. Market Street at about 1:30 p.m. ET. They were able to get to the scene quickly and extinguish that fire. Weaver said that an investigator from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office arrived on scene and determined that the fire started in the closet in a bedroom and that it was deliberately set. Fire Officials Investigate Arson Incident in Star City
The Star City Fire Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a house fire that occurred at Nathan VanDerAa’s home in Star City on Sunday.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office told WKVI that the fire is considered incendiary, meaning that it was created by someone. The home and VanDerAa’s vehicle were both set on fire.
