Nominations are now being accepted for the Henry F. Schricker Award.
The members of the Starke County Chamber of Commerce will review all nominations of those Starke County residents who exemplify the former governor’s motto of “service before self”. This is the 30th Schricker Award to be given to a worthy Starke County resident.
The chamber is also accepting nominations of the Business of the Year.
The annual Starke County Chamber’s Golf Outing is coming up soon and it isn’t too late to get involved. Join the Chamber on Friday Sept. 15 at the Hamlet Golf Course. The event is not limited to members only, anyone can play.
The day will start off with at 11 a.m. with a lunch. The outing will also feature more than golf; other games, drinks and door prizes will be available throughout the day until 5 p.m. CT. Continue reading

U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski visited Bass Lake Monday, to tout some of her accomplishments to members of the Starke and Pulaski County chambers of commerce. Walorski said that over the past few years, House Republicans have been making progress on their agenda, in spite of a president Walorski says has not been supportive of their positions. Kersting’s Cycle Center owner Jim Kersting and his late wife, Nella, opened a small engine repair shop south of North Judson on State Road 39 in 1960. A longtime Starke County Extension Home Economist is the winner of the 2015 Henry F. Schricker Award. Named for the former governor and Starke County native, the award is given annually to a resident who embodies Shricker’s credo of service before self. The Leadership Starke County class of 2014-2015 has graduated. The 15 participants spent the past nine months honing community leadership skills, building self-confidence and interacting with community leaders. The class included a student from each of the county’s three high schools. Members met one day per month at sites throughout the county and learned about local history, geography and culture, the local economy, government, education and social services. Strategic planning and service on boards were also covered. Continue reading
