Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund to Sponsor Food Distribution in Hamlet Thursday

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana will be visiting Hamlet tomorrow, September 9. The Starke County Community Foundation’s Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund is sponsoring a drive-through food distribution, according to the food bank’s website. It’ll take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon CDT at the James R. Hardesty Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Station and Community Center.

Hamlet Lions Club Gets $1,000 Starke County Community Foundation Popup Grant

The Hamlet Lions Club has gotten a $1,000 boost. It was chosen as the recipient of the Starke County Community Foundation’s August popup grant.

Starke County Community Foundation Presents $1,500 Grant for Bass Lake Kayak Rental

Starke County Park Board President Richard Ballard, County Attorney Marty Lucas, and board members Kathy Norem, Rik Ritzler, and Karl Swihart accept a $1,500 grant from Starke County Community Foundation Director of Development Jacque Ryan.

Funding for a Bass Lake Beach kayak rental was recently presented to the Starke County Park Board. Starke County Community Foundation Director of Development Jacque Ryan presented a giant check during last month’s park board meeting. “This grant specifically is for $1,500 for the kayaks and paddle boards for Bass Lake,” she said.

Starke County Park Board to Review Bass Lake Beach and Campground Inventory Report

A Bass Lake Beach and Campground inventory report will be presented to the Starke County Park Board tonight. The park board took direct control of the property earlier this year, following the death of lessee Richard Callahan. But figuring out who actually owns various pieces of equipment at the property and who’s entitled to a sizeable chunk of the campground revenues has proven to be a challenge.

Oregon-Davis School Board Accepts Student Debt Relief Grant, Athletic Donations

Oregon-Davis students continue to benefit from the generosity of local residents, businesses, and organizations. The school board Monday accepted $25,000 in grant funding from the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund. The grant came about after the school board took action last month to intercept state income tax refunds to collect unpaid fees, and the Hardesty Fund offered to pay off the entire debt instead.

Oregon-Davis School Board to Accept Student Debt Relief Donation Tonight

A $25,000 donation to wipe out student debt will be up for the Oregon-Davis School Board’s official approval tonight. Board members approved an agreement last month that would let school officials collect outstanding fees by intercepting state income tax refunds, but the Starke County Community Foundation’s Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund has since agreed to pay them off entirely.

Those owing money to the Oregon-Davis School Corporation have had their debt wiped away. The Starke County Community Foundation’s Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund has agreed to pay off $25,000 in outstanding debt, through a grant awarded to the school corporation last week.
