Helping those over 50 get healthy and make some new friends is the goal of a new program at Starke Hospital. HealthPorte is a free senior program that began at LaPorte Hospital. Now, it’s expanded to Starke and Porter Regional hospitals, according to a hospital press release.
Starke County Council, Commissioners to Meet Tonight
The Starke County Council members will discuss a request from Sheriff Bill Dulin about a new CAD system when they meet tonight. Sheriff Dulin said in a previous meeting that an update with the current system limits what the staff can use in terms of gathering pertinent information concerning drug cases for the application of grant funds. A new program could cost upwards of $150,000, which was the last preliminary estimate figured by Dulin, but he will have more information for the council members tonight.
Applications Available for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
As the winter season approaches and temperatures continue to drop, people will begin turning up the heat in their homes. If you and your family are worried that you cannot afford the additional cost this season, there is a chance you could qualify for help through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

North Judson to Pursue Larger Grant for Community Center Project

Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins told the town council Monday that the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs has increased the maximum amount of grant funding to $500,000 from $400,000 for the fall application round. The weather might yet be cold, but you don’t have to be. North Central Community Action Agencies continues to accept applications to help low-income households pay their home heating bills. Any household that has not yet received assistance this heating season should call the agency and request additional information or schedule an appointment.
