An off-road vehicle crash near Bass Lake claimed the life of an Illinois man over the weekend. Indiana Conservation Officers say it happened in the 5500 block of South Starke County Road 700 East.
Monterey Deaths Ruled Murder-Suicide
Friday’s deaths of a Monterey couple in their home have been ruled a murder-suicide. Starke County Coroner Dannie Hoffer tells WKVI News Clifford Foster, 53, shot his wife, Lynn, age 52, in the head with a pistol before turning a shotgun on himself.
Monterey Deaths Under Investigation with Sheriff’s Department
Detectives and officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the deaths of two Monterey residents.
According to Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin, a caller notified police around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 17 that there was a cause for concern when a co-worker did not check in for work that day. The responding officer arrived at the home and talked to a family member who told the officer that two people were deceased inside the residence. The responding officer entered victim’s residence at 8893 S. Elm Street in Monterey where two people were found dead.
Commissioners to Consider CAFO Ordinance, Jail Screen and Building Bids Tonight
The Starke County Commissioners hope to wrap up quite a bit of unfinished business when they meet this evening. Normally their second meeting of the month takes place on the third Monday. However, it was moved to tonight instead. Continue reading

Courthouse and Old Jail Renovations to Start Soon
The Starke County Commissioners are preparing for the start of renovations to the courthouse and former jail building. Bids for the work were opened last night and will be awarded during a special-called meeting next week. Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s office and the coroner’s office are moving out of the old jail so demolition work can begin immediately. The Starke County Health Department and Purdue Extension are also relocating from the first floor of the courthouse. Continue reading
Preliminary Autopsy Indicates North Judson Man Drowned
Preliminary autopsy results indicate the North Judson man whose body was pulled from a ditch on Kankakee Fish and Wildlife Area property Monday afternoon may have drowned. DNR Law Enforcement spokesman Shawn D. Brown says 22-year-old Stephen Argady had water in his lungs, and alcohol was detected in his system. Continue reading
