
A Knox man is facing multiple charges after Plymouth Police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Starke County officials will have a better idea after tonight of what proposed renovations to the old jail and courthouse will look like and cost. Representatives from DLZ and Skillman Corporation will present plans to the council and commissioners. They designed and built the new jail east of Knox on State Road 8.
The cost of justice-related projects will be covered with funds from the county economic development income tax passed to pay for jail construction. Other improvements will be paid for out of the general county economic development income tax fund. The prosecutor, clerk and Starke County Community Corrections will also contribute money from their budgets to cover portions of the project. The amounts of their respective contributions are not known at this time. Continue reading

A high wind warning is in effect for our area until late tonight. South winds are expected to veer southwest and rapidly increase this morning. By afternoon they will become west, according to the National Weather Service. Sustained wind speeds of between 25 and 40 miles per hour are expected, with widespread gusts of 50 to 55 miles per hour. Continue reading
A “boil water” order in the trailer park in north Hamlet is expected to remain in effect until Friday. Water and Street Superintendent Fred Rowe told the town board last night a water line was cut in the area. The Veterans Day Holiday delayed a lab testing of a water sample. The City of Knox is still picking up leaves as resources allow. Mayor Rick Chambers says they will continue to do so until it snows. Leaves should be placed in a long row along the side of the street in front of homes so they can be vacuumed up easily. Don’t place them in alleys, and do not bag them.
