Starke County Road Closed for Bridge Project
Starting today, a Starke County road will be closed for a bridge repair project. County highway officials advise 100 East will be closed between State Road 10 and 500 South for the next month.
Starke County Youth Club Receives Gift from Golden Living Center
The Starke County Youth Club can continue its efforts to provide quality after school programs to local students thanks to a local business. The nonprofit recently received a $1,000 award from the Golden Living Center Community Support Initiative. WKVI’s Nathan Welter Pays Off Sports Bet
The North Judson-San Pierre High School athletic department is a little bit richer, and WKVI Sports Director Nathan Welter is very sparkly after yesterday’s homecoming pep rally. He’s a Knox graduate known for looking for NBA expert picks and winning big. This time however, he made a different kind of wager with news director Mary Perren, a N.J.-S.P. graduate on the outcome of last week’s game. North Judson won, so Welter had to pay up. Judge Sets Sentencing Date for Accused Child Molester
The Knox man accused of molesting a young boy at his Heaton Street home earlier this year will be sentenced in late October. Robert “Moped Bob” Wislinski, 67, pleaded guilty to one count of child molesting and one count of possession of child pornography during a hearing Thursday morning in Starke Circuit Court. Arrowhead Country RC&D Explains Grant Framework for Starke Forest Recommendation
A local conservation agency says they don’t require specialist input prior to delivering on grant fund requests.
The comments come after a recommendation by the Starke County Park Board to seek grants from Arrowhead Country RC&D. If selected, monies would be used to construct a bypass ditch across the south side of the Starke County Forest. The work aims to move water around a decades-old marsh, preventing damage to wildlife in the area.

“Tar Spot” Fungus Identified in Northern Indiana Fields
A corn disease not previously reported in the United States has been spotted in northern Indiana.
Plant pathologists say “tar spot” is a fungal disease that develops brown lesions on the corn leaf. Black ascomata later appear, protruding from the leaf. The structures produce spores which spread the “tar spot” fungus.

Starke County Farm Bureau Awards Funds to N.J.-S.P. FFA
North Judson-San Pierre Future Farmers of America members will be headed to Louisville, Ky. next month for the organization’s national convention. Their trip is made possible in part by the Starke County Farm Bureau. Representative Tiffany Naigi presented a $700 check to program during Tuesday’s school board meeting.
