Field Moisture a Challenge Following Tornado
A weekend tornado in Starke County was reported to have damaged crops slightly, but hail and the added rainfall may begin affecting production even more.
Storms have left fields a bit damp for farmers as standing water has been reported in fields throughout Starke and Pulaski County. Standing water begins to affect roots after a couple of days.

Society of Innovators Issues Call for Nominations
The Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana of Ivy Tech Community College is looking for innovators throughout the seven-county region they serve. Officials visited Kemin Industries in North Judson yesterday as part of a seven-county call for nominations tour. The Kemin-Lambert Spearmint Team was the 2013-14 recipient of the Chanute Prize for Team Innovation. Starke County Bicentennial Committee Discusses Torch Relay Route
A preliminary route for the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Torch to travel thru Starke County late afternoon and evening October 7, 2016, was the main topic of discussion of the Starke County Indiana Bicentennial Committee this week.
The torch will be primarily transported by people, passing the flame from torch bearer to to torchbearer. The local relay may also use other modes of conveyance that are symbolic of the history and heritage of Starke County, including watercraft, antique vehicles and railroad. Continue reading

The hazardous waste collection event is located at 3835 East 250 North in Knox and runs Friday, June 12 from 3:30 until 5 pm and Saturday, June 13 from 8:30 am until 1 pm. Officials with the National Weather Service were able to confirm an EF-1 Tornado touched down in western Starke County. Wind speeds were estimated at a maximum of 95 miles per hour.

Tornado Confirmed in Weekend Storms
A tornado has been confirmed to have appeared in Starke County during weekend storms.
Officials from the National Weather service traveled to Starke County Monday afternoon to survey the damage. According to Starke County Emergency Management Agency Director Ted Bombagetti, the category of the tornado has not yet been determined.

Plea Under Advisement for Attempted Murder Defendant
Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall has taken a plea from an attempted murder defendant under advisement. Benton Christopher Howard, 42, is accused of critically stabbing Brandon Davidson at a home in the Parkview Heights area of Knox on Nov. 30, 2014. Davidson was transferred from IU Health Starke Hospital to South Bend for treatment of a wound to his heart and lung. Howard is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery in connection with the incident. His plea is to a lesser battery offense. Continue reading
Road Paving Bid Chosen During Special Board of Public Works Meeting Monday Morning
Four streets in the city of Knox are scheduled for paving but first things first, who will do it? The roads planned for paving are Lake Street, East Street, Potter Street and Myrtle Court. Three bids were on the table during the board of public works meeting called specifically for this item.
